Welcome to Christ Lutheran e-news, a weekly electronic newsletter which highlights programs and activities of our congregation. Feel free to .

Buckle up! It's an extraordinarily full weekend ahead at Christ Lutheran Church!

On Saturday from 2:00-6:00 Pastora Rose Mary S ánchez-Guzm án will be joined by immigration attorney Kira Gagarin and a recent Central American arrival for a "mini immersion." We'll hear about Pastora's immigrant community in El Paso, learn the realities of legal migration from Central America, and hear the first-hand story of one who has made the difficult decision and journey to migrate to the USA. A chili supper will conclude the event.
At 7:00 on Saturday the witty and talented Rob Humphreville returns to accompany the 1926 silent movie "Ella Cinders," based on the comic strip of the same name and folk tale, "Cinderella." Do bring friends and family to enjoy this delightful evening. Refreshments will be served.
On Sunday morning Pastora will continue conversation about the ministries of Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey with migrants on both sides of the border, and preach at worship. Afterwards, we'll bless the minibus and its contents-it'll be a full bus, people!-and celebrate over brunch.
Later that day our Family Promise host week begins.
CLC folk have once again come through to "people" and support these many important events. Thank you!!

Music Notes
Tom Berryman, Music Director

Rob Humphreville returns to CLC for his seventh Silent Movie Night this Saturday, February 22 at 7 pm in the Parish Hall. Rob provides piano accompaniment for the entire movie, helping to tie thematic threads together and enhance the dramatic action through music. Playing for silent movies is a longstanding art form, challenging the performer to create an interesting commentary for the entire length of the film with musical quotes, new tunes, changes in tone, harmony and texture. Rob is a master at this craft!

Ella Cinders, starring Collen Moore, retells the Cinderella fairy tale, updated to 1926. Have a look at the trailer here:

Hope to see you on Saturday night!

Youth & Family
Gail Weston-Roberts, Youth & Family Ministries Coordinator

Hello, CLC Youth and Families!

Yesterday Phil and I, as confirmation guides, spent the day with two of our newest members, catching them up on the Hebrew scriptures otherwise known as the Old Testament.  Vanessa and Owen Isbrandt were quite patient thru the 5-straight-hours (!!) of bible learning, for which we thank them kindly! Anyone else who'd like to catch up on what they missed in confirmation? Let us know and we'll make a date.

So I'll be calling to check on your availability before Pastora Rose Mary's 'migration experience' program at 2pm this Saturday, Feb. 22. We could get a lot of bus decorating done during vacation week if your hours coincide a bit by Friday! And again, if you have friends that would like volunteer hours, working on the packing and bus-spiffing-up counts toward those! Last call for those of you who have unfinished quilts, too-please Phone/Text me.

Thank you very much, and Peace Be-Gail W-R, Youth & Fam. Coord.

Call to Action

Please consider the abundance of outstanding events planned for this weekend, choose those that your schedule permits, invite friends and family, and come!

Looking Ahead

Next Wednesday, February 27, is Ash Wednesday, the start of the solemn time of Lent. There will be a simple service at 11:00 a.m., and a fuller liturgy at 7:30 p.m. Both will include the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion. Join your siblings in Christ as we begin our Lenten pilgrimage, and plan to gather each Wednesday in Lent for a contemplative service of Prayer Around the Cross. (A pot of soup will be on the stove for Lenten mid-week services.)

On Sunday, February 23,  we celebrate the Transfiguration of Our Lord.  Pastora Rose Mary Sánchez-Guzmán preaching, Pr. Rebecca Bourret presiding.
READINGS FOR THIS WEEK - Transfiguration of Our Lord.
February 23, 2020

Today's festival is a bridge between the Advent-Christmas-Epiphany cycle that comes to a close today and the Lent-Easter cycle that begins in several days. On a high mountain Jesus is revealed as God's beloved Son, echoing the words at his baptism. This vision of glory sustains us as Jesus faces his impending death in Jerusalem. We turn this week to Ash Wednesday and our yearly baptismal journey from Lent to Easter. Some churches put aside the alleluia at the conclusion of today's liturgy. This word of joy will be omitted during the penitential season of Lent and will be sung again at Easter.

Sing For Joy
Enhance your understanding of the weekly scripture readings by listening to Sing For Joy http://www.stolaf.edu/singforjoy/ from St. Olaf College.  The Sing For Joy radio program, produced by St. Olaf College , has a simple mission: to explore the weekly themes of Christian worship by providing the best in sacred choral music and thoughtful commentary. The musical performances eloquently "do the talking," while the concise remarks from host Pastor Bruce Benson illuminate the meaning of the texts.
