The building is closed but the church is not! September 13 is "God's Work, Our Hands" Sunday, and our hands and feet and voices proclaim God's gracious reign in as many places as we are scattered. Choose a project, do your part, and take a selfie to encourage others.

Stumped for an idea? See the September Reporter. Need someone else to take your picture? Contact Celeste Larson.

Next Thursday evening September 10 you're invited to a virtual Agape Feast. Prepare a (really) simple meal, then join your siblings in Christ for a time of holy conversation, with prayer, song, and poetry. See the September Reporter for details.

BOOK GROUP, Monday, October 5, 7:30 pm via Zoom

Edith Wharton's novel, The Age of Innocence, depicts 19th century New York high society and its restrictive norms of behavior. Newland Archer, the scion of a wealthy "old New York" family finds himself attracted to free-spirited Countess Ellen Olenska, a former member of their exclusive circle who has just rejoined her family after leaving her cruel husband in Europe.

Engaged to May Welland, a member of elite society, Newland begins an emotional entanglement with Ellen that clashes with their order-obsessed society. Wharton draws on her own personal experiences as a member of one of New York's oldest families in this portrayal of the Gilded Age becoming the first woman to receive a Pulitzer Prize.

Immigration Nation is a six-part documentary concerning Immigration  and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and US immigration policy. Producers were embedded with ICE for a period of two years 2017-2019, with almost unfettered access to ICE operations.

Watch the series on Netflix, then join in conversation (via Zoom, naturally) to discuss. How does our faith as Christians speak to this issue, in all is complexity?

What demands does it make of us? Where is God at work? We'll meet next Wednesday, September 9, at 6:00.

READINGS FOR THIS WEEK - 14th Sunday after Pentecost

September 6, 2020

When church people refer to "Matthew 18," it is the gospel for this coming Sunday that they are thinking of, with its advice about how Christians are to deal with controversies within the believing community. The good news in the reading is especially the last line: that Christ is among us always. Come to receive Christ's gift of himself in word, sacrament, and community.

First Reading                      Psalm                     Second Reading                     Gospel
                 Ezekiel 33:7-11              Psalm 119:33-40             Romans 13:8-14             Matthew 18:15-20
Sing For Joy
Enhance your understanding of the weekly scripture readings by listening to Sing For Joy from St. Olaf College.  The Sing For Joy radio program, produced by St. Olaf College, has a simple mission: to explore the weekly themes of Christian worship by providing the best in sacred choral music and thoughtful commentary. The musical performances eloquently "do the talking," while the concise remarks from host Pastor Bruce Benson illuminate the meaning of the texts.
