strategic planning session
to devise a path going forward. It is important that you provide us with input.

Other announcements:
- Membership Survey. This week you will receive a link to a survey about your preferences for section communications, CLE formats, priorities, etc. Please complete the survey by Jan. 17. Thank you to ADR Section Executive Council members Michelle Jernigan, Lawrence Kolin and Christy Foley for their assistance in developing the survey.
- DRC Handbook. The Florida Dispute Resolution Center Office of the State Courts Administrator has released its 2020 ADR Resource Handbook. The handbook is an annual publication containing select alternative dispute resolution statutes, court procedural rules and administrative orders.
- CPR 2020 Annual Meeting. The ADR Section is a cooperating entity for the 2020 Annual Meeting of the International Institute of Conflict Prevention and Resolution, Feb. 27-29 at the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club. Details about the meeting are available at this link.

Committee Appointments and Reappointments

The Florida Bar is seeking applicants for committee members during the 2020-2021 Bar year. There are more than 70 committees and there will be approximately 500 appointments to those committees.
Joining a committee is a fantastic way to become more involved in the Bar, network with colleagues, build your referral base and have input on how our profession is governed. Plus, it’s a great way to get people to recognize you and the work you’re doing with the ADR Section of The Florida Bar!
The committee preference form is due by Jan. 15, so please be sure to fill out your application soon. Forms can be found on

Professionalism Award Nominations Due by February 14

- William M. Hoeveler Judicial Professionalism Award. Active members of the judiciary who exemplify professionalism and competence as a jurist, lawyer and public servant.
|
|
|
- Group Professionalism Award. One program instituted and coordinated by a bar association, judicial organization, inn of court, or law school organization aimed at enhancing professionalism among lawyers and law students.
- Law Faculty/Administrator Professionalism Award. A faculty member or administrator of one of Florida’s law schools who best exemplifies the mission of the Standing Committee on Professionalism.

Kelly Overstreet Johnson
has been invited to become a Fellow of the American College of Civil Trial Mediators, a 150-member, nationwide non-profit association of professional mediators. She also has been accepted as a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Commercial Mediation and Commercial Arbitration Expedited panels.
|

Christy L. Foley
co-taught the Mediation Mastery seminar in November that was hosted by CPLS, PA of Orlando. The all-day seminar covered mediation techniques, ethics and business practices. The small-group class included group discussion, exercises and lecture. It will be hosted again in mid-January 2020.

CLE and CME Opportunities

- What is the issue on appeal? Types of adjudication.
- The trial court committed error, but does it matter? Harmless error analysis.

This course will help participants understand the role of a parent coordinator and mediator in a divorce; how to effectively use mediators and parent coordinators; common mental health issues that families struggle with secondary to a divorce; and three ways psychologists can help parties by working with attorneys. Earn IPV (Interpersonal Violence ) CME Credits
Attorney Lisa Haba presents a two-part CLE series that focuses on human trafficking and how it presents itself in society. Part 1 provides 1.0 CLE credit; Part 2 provides 1.0 CLE credit, all of which may be applied toward Ethics. Earn 1.0 IPV, 1.0 Ethics CME per course. ADR Section member registration is $40 for each.
