CLFMI SELF CARE INITIATIVE
WE CAN’T POUR FROM AN EMPTY CUP

DEFINITION:
Self-care is important to maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself. It means doing things to take care of our minds, bodies, and souls by engaging in activities that promote well-being and reduce stress.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN:
Give yourself permission to take care of yourself. Make yourself a priority. Four categories include: physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological. Examples can include:

Physical:
Take walks, practice good nutrition, ride your bike, do yoga, get enough sleep, dance, stretch, get a massage, soak in the tub. Get involved in a volunteer opportunity---which helps to give meaning to your life.

Emotions:
Coping skill: Practice stress management by journaling. Talk to your family and friends or have a virtual gathering--laugh and have fun. Challenge your creativity with art or craft projects, gardening, redecorating, or re-organizing.

Psychological:
Work puzzles, read a book, watch a movie, listen to music, or take a drive. Occasionally disconnect from electronics, social media, and especially the news. Don't self-medicate.

Spiritual:
Spend some quiet time alone, do meditation, pray, or spend time in nature.

HOW TO DO THIS:
Do one of the above categories for at least 15 minutes daily. Schedule weekly self-care time on your calendar or planner. Protect this time. Find an accountability partner.

An Encouraging Word
Encouraging Word Article
December 2020

For Such A Moment Like This

Throughout the bible you see people who have gone through challenging times in preparation for life changing events. Look at the story of Noah and the years of labor to complete an ark in the middle of dry land. Moses went through a life of ups and downs in preparation for the job of leading God's people out of bondage. You have Joseph, David and many more.
If you read the stories of these biblical characters you will see that their life was not always a bed of roses.
All through history there have been others who have been prepared for hard times. So what does this have to do with us. Here is the answer. Hard times don't change who we are, but reveals who we are. The experiences, be it good or bad, have prepared us for "such a moment as this", the moment that we are currently in. How we react during these tough times have an affect on those who are struggling, whether or not we realize it.

Remember, knowledge is good, but experience coupled with Godly wisdom is better.  The trials of life is the bootcamp for the war at hand. If you are born again feel honored that you have the opportunity to use your life's challenges and your ability to overcome with the help of God to help others.
Till next time,
Pastor J.
