US Discusses 'The Golden Rule'

On Friday, September 25, 2020 a group of CLF sisters got together over Zoom to discuss an article written by Pastor Barb (see below):

The Golden Rule
by Pastor Barbara Hill
Recently in my local supermarket, where I have shopped for over twenty years I have noticed many changes. The items on the shelves are rearranged, the aisles have been widened and there are markers on the floor indicating the right and wrong way to approach the aisle. I was so excited. Trying to exercise social distancing was a little difficult. I said to myself, "This is great! This will work.” I am sorry to say that was not the case. The very first aisle I went down, I met several  people going the wrong way.  My first thought was to get angry and go to the Service Center and report them.  Thank God for the Holy Spirit that spoke to my heart and said, “Babs you do the right thing.”

The Golden Rule. If you are like me, you have heard it many times. I have heard mothers speak it, teachers teach it, and pastors preach it. But somehow we have notliced it. Matthew 7:12 says, " Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and by the prophets. Tell me when will we begin to esteem others more highly than we do ourselves? Will there come a time when we will stop and override our selfishness and just do the right thing? This is not a hard concept to understand but it is very difficult to mimic. Why is this?

I think it's because our expectations of others are often time higher than the expectations we have for ourselves. There were times, in my Christian walk where I observed the people of God not  removing the log in their own eye before trying to remove the splinter from someone else’s. We should examine ourselves first, then perhaps our judgement of others just might be different.

Don't do to others what you don't want done to you. If you don't want to be talked about behind your back, don't you do it. If you don't want your name to be smeared or assassinated, don't you do it. Treat others the way you want to be treated.  How about that! The Golden Rule …it is the foundation for exercising a little understanding, a little grace and a little mercy. It's asking yourself: What would Jesus do?
Remember- God blesses those who are humble for they will inherit the whole earth. Matthew 5:5

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!" A simple directive that is often not simply done. Why is that? What makes it difficult? Are there any situations where judging is ok? These questions and others were the impetus for the frank and honest discussion that ensued. If you weren't there, you missed a rich and wonderful time of being together with Sisters! But we have other opportunities for you to join US:

"Is Your House in Order?"- November 6, 2020
"Getting to Know Your Sister" - January 8, 2021

An Encouraging Word
Encouraging Word Article
October 2020

Don't Be Fooled
Are you puzzled when you see people that operate under the banner of christianity doing and saying things that are contrary to what Jesus says.  Are you confused when you hear someone saying things of God in one moment and things of the devil the next. Are you still more confused when people proclaim to be Christian yet hate others that are of a different race or religion, and associate with and support those that spew out vile and destructive words.

I could go on, but you get the point. Jesus spoke of these type of people. In Matthew 7:15 it says " beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's clothing". If you read the entire chapter of Matthew 7 you will see the warning that Jesus gave that greatly points to the times we are living in at this very moment.  One part of these scriptures I want to point out is Matthew 7:23 " And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you, depart from me ye that work iniquities ". It might seem like a contradictional statement due to the fact that God is all knowing. The not knowing here is like one that is disowned as being part of a family.  Those who are a part of the family of God are not just church goers but are they that are born again.

Don't let these turbulent times shake you. Get grounded in the word of God.

Till next time,
Pastor J
