1st Week in December 2024!

The Usual--

Folks had a great time at the annual HCBDD thanksgiving dinner last Monday. I was sorry to miss it. It's always nice to catch up with so many people I haven't seen for quite a while.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed the long break. It's been a little off-putting this year, with Thanksgiving Day being a little later than usual and also the warm fall weather extending into November. It will be Christmas break before we all know it!

The CLI regular program calendar is below. This is for our regular day programs only. We will be providing some alternative special services and also transportation on some of the program "closed" days. FYI-- CLI is typically willing to help people do special activities of their choosing on prorgram closed days (including evenings, weekends, and holidays). However, it usually takes a fair amount of planning to make this happen-- coordinating with SSAs to make sure that services are authorized and then coordinating with CLI staff to ensure that we're set to actually do it. But-- I'm a firm believer in the adage that you don't get if you don't ask. CLI's mission is to help people with DD live the life of their choosing. Individuals actually making independent choices is a key part of that.

Many thanks goes to Elite Cosmetology in Norwalk for doing manicures for 7 lucky CLI clients. It was a good time & there was a fair amount of showing off nicely done nails when the group returned.

What's new in Thrive?

The past month has been quite eventful in our THRIVE classes. We have been perfecting our communication skills and remembering the essentials about having conversations with each other both in person and on the phone.

Everyone continues to improve on their keyboarding skills. We have not only been doing the lessons on Typing.com but also using those skills to type word lists, thank you notes and resumes!

We continue to work on skills needed to obtain a job. Everyone now has a resume and identified people who would be good references. During December we will be doing mock interviews to help nail down that perfect job!

For our visits to local businesses, the clients were excited to see what happens at Boros Manufacturing and Fisher Titus Hospital. They were kind enough to offer various tour times so several clients had the chance to see what they do.

Thanks to the DODD ADS Quality Pilot Grant, CLI has a whole fresh new curriculum around technology and social media training-- including a lending library of 5G iPads that people can sign out and take home!
