John's usual--

A quick bit this week-- we're hoping to see lots of old friends stop by the Workshop's 40 year reunion & open house this Friday. Super low pressure. Rhonda and crew are working on the Walking Tacos & cookies. James has a banner, markers & paint ready to go. We'll be hanging that up in the shop afterwards. Incidentally-- while we are trying to pull in people that we haven't seen for a long time-- this event is open to anyone/everyone, including other providers and their clients. Please help us spread the word. The goal is just to have fun & more people is always more fun.

Other than that, it's just a normal, busy week for all of us at CLI. August can be a deceptive month for me, where I feel like I have lots of summer left. But really, even though there may be lots of warm weather left-- a lot of the fall schedule stuff starts right after Labor Day. CLI is pushing out a couple new programs this fall. The first is a quarterly schedule of free fun events for high school students with DD & their parents. The first one of these is September 30th at Kenilee. Our ambition with these is to reach these families earlier so that we can help them better anticipate the adult services world after graduation. There's a real need for that. The second new program will be pushing out will evening & Saturday activities exclusively for individuals who are community employed. We know that people often miss the social interaction of the workshop and sometimes feel isolated. If we want to support community employment outcomes, then we also need to provide supplemental supports outside of work.

Anyway, Labor Day is definitely just around the corner. I'm trying to embrace the hot, sticky, Ohio August while it's here, but it's not my favorite.

Have a great week & make sure that you're drinking lots of water.

We had our August monthly drop off day last week. We had 46 people come through and drop off 3,911 lbs. of paper for destruction. Thank you to everyone who participated.

As a reminder, on the first Wed. of every month, we have an open drop off day. ANYONE can bring paper to be destroyed. Businesses and non-businesses are welcome. Seniors get a special break. The first 50 lbs. are free for seniors. It is only .25/lb. after the first 50lbs.
It does not matter where you live either.

Our next drop off day will be September 7th from 9-2.

Reminder: This Friday is the CLI family reunion/indoor picnic. From 2-6 everyone is welcome to come back and see some familiar faces. You can also check out some of the jobs that we are working on here at the workshop. We would love to see your smiling face there. Even if you are not smiling we would love to have you come. I guarantee I will put a smile on your face. Also, please stop by my table to take part in a special project.

Have a great week and see you Friday!

CLI helps people volunteer in the commuinty a lot-- but sometimes the best way to help out is to use your time in your own spaces. CLI volunteers helped the Norwalk Arts Council this week get their mass mailing ready to send out.
Good Works Cafe
CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir Clubhouse. Thanks to the generous donations (money & food), CLI is able to take care of our neighbors and also get some real life restaurant and customer service job training.

A big THANK YOU to NOMS Access Orthopedics who ordered a bunch of lunches last week & made a $90 donation to CLI Good Works. We're grateful for both the opportunity to deliver these lunches + we will plow these kinds of donation right back into the Good Works Cafe Program. We really like opportunities where everybody wins!
