Meet FL's Andrew Smith!

Andrew just joined the Firelands Local LLC Team this year. He's been an enthusiastic and industrious addition-- popular with staff & clients. He says that his favorite part of the job so far is the opportunity for leadership and the work schedule.

Andrew's a handy guy and when he's not at work, he keeps himself busy with projects around the house and learning to play the piano. He says that he also enjoys movies & television.

Andrew says that if he weren't working for Firelands Local, he'd probably go back to school and deliver pizza to pay the bills. We're lucky to have him!

It's been great weather to visit some of our local trails and parks. We haven't even needed those jackets for most of last week!

I hope everyone had a good long weekend. The weather was really nice. I was able to spend a little time at the Norwalk Strawberry Festival on Saturday. It was nice. The Jaycees did a particularly impressive job of organizing everything this year.

CLI will be a little bit short-staffed in the month of June because we have a few conflicting staff personal paid time off as the summer begins. The catch-22 of benefits like paid time off is that you want people to use it but it's also difficult to accommodate that time off without having impacts on specific programs. This is increasing true as CLI moves further and further away from the traditional single big workshop day program. Part of the way we accommodate the staff shortage is to build a larger proportion of large-group services, with a shift in emphasis toward fun and social opportunities instead of focusing more on community integration, career exploration, and/or staff-intensive teaching moments.

CLI has an open full-time community activity facilitator position open right now. This position has a base salary of $37,440 and the benefits include 8 paid holidays, 15 days PTO that starts accumulating after the first 180 days, health insurance, ancillary insurance and/or a gym subsidy, life insurance, discounted use of CLI assets, and some other smaller perks. Plus, we're a fun team that recognizes our need to support each other just as much as our need to support our clients with developmental disabilities. We're not at all hung up on DD field experience. We are extremely picky, but the three most important traits in our book are integrity, work ethic, and initiative. We look for life experiences that demonstrate a candidate's strengths in those three areas. I believe that the right person can learn the rest on the job.

Thanks to the DODD ADS Quality Pilot Grant, CLI has a whole fresh new curriculum around technology and social media training-- including a lending library of 5G iPads that people enrolled in these classes can sign out and take home! Tell Haven in you want to learn more.

Just a quick shout out to John Woodruff who made this wood hamburger puzzle and donated it to CLI's Therapeutic Day Program. They're a handy family!

I would like to first recognize and thank all our military both past and present.

I would also like to introduce our newest employee

Carley Nickoli. Carley started with us at the beginning of April and has been doing a wonderful job and has taken over the boat shrink wrap program. We have already received positive customer feedback as well. A recent customer wrote "I am impressed! You have a keeper.  Carley was spectacular". This is feedback we love to hear. By the way, this compliment came on the very first time time she collected boat shrink wrap solo in the compactor truck. Way to go Carley!!

Question of the week



Q: Is Thursday night date night really a thing?

A: Yep, CLI will be setting aside staff time every Thursday evening as part of our newly expanded comprehensive Community Employment support service (which we're branding as "THRIVE in Community Employment). So if you're holding down a community job, we want to help you stay on top of a social life too. We're calling it "date night", but we don't care if a platonic friends thing. The main point is it's another opportunity for you to get out and do what you want, with who you want.
