New Year's Week 2023!

John's usual--

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a great break and was able to enjoy getting that extra Friday off before Christmas. That was some weather. I was really grateful that my kids got home just before the storm and we were able to be snowbound together as a family.

I've been thinking about my personal 2023 resolutions & what I want to work on. I've decided to go all in on incremental progress for my 2023 resolutions instead of anything big. I'm going to try to exercise a little more, eat & drink a little less, and do a little bit better staying in touch with family & friends that I don't see very often. Let me or any CLI staff know if you have a new year's resolution that we can support. We'd love to help.

If your resolution is to get a community job or to just make some money to so that you can do more fun stuff-- Ohio's minimum wage has increased to $10.10 per hour. This means that all of Firelands Local LLC's jobs (in & outside of the workshop) now pay at least $10.10 per hour. It's definitely a good time to be a working stiff. It's also a really really good time to get or change a job in the community right now because almost every company is hiring. This is not always true.

I should have taken pictures, but I appreciated the family & friends that braved the fog to bring David, Christina, and Bob the fog to yesterday's Monday mixed bowling league.

Have a great week!

John

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir Clubhouse.

Thanks to the generous donations (money & food), CLI is able to take care of our neighbors and also get some real life restaurant and customer service job training.

Question of the week

Q: How does CLI decide if the weather is bad enough to cancel programs for the day?

A: CLI always errors on the side of caution. We know that many people count on our day programs and that it is really inconvenient when we delay or close. Typically we watch to see what area schools are doing-- especially when the close because of ice or snow on the roads. Fog's a little trickier. We do often delay for fog, but we usually don't close. One thing to keep in mind during a fog delay is that CLI drivers will be driving more slowly than normal, so the routes will take a bit longer on those days. Sometimes we delay and then have to cancel. If we do cancel, we'll send out another 1 call. If you don't get the call, then we're still on our way.

We usually don't close for cold weather, so on really cold days-- you should make sure to wear a hat & gloves. Also, wait inside your house until the van gets there-- and take your time walking to the van. We pick safe & slow every time!
