These witches' hats are even more impressive when you realize that they are 100% made from foam sticker waste! Firelands Local has tons of this material-- so if you need some stock for your black craft project-- we can hook you up!

The Usual--

Fall is definitely in the air. The weather has been absolutely beautiful the past couple of weeks, but it's Ohio and conditions can change quickly. Make sure that you dress for the activities you're planning on for the day. Fun outdoor activities are no fun when you are wet & cold. And doing an exercise class at the Ernsthausen in jeans is uncomfortable. Staff will be happy to help you sort out your extra clothes if you need them.

Julie has come up with some fun new initiatives for both the vocational and the non-vocational programs at the workshop. This month, THRIVE recognized Alex as Firelands Local's employee of the month! This will be something that we do every month. Next month CLI will begin to recognize a CLI "Star" of the month. We'll share more about how you win this recognition in future newsletter. In my mind the person will exemplify many of the cool things that have helped people win the Mary Christian Good Friend award (which is an annual prize)-- but also adding a few more key elements of what we're supposed to be working toward with community volunteerism & independent living skills.

The new THRIVE curriculum has definitely re-invigorated both the work and the non-work activities in the workshop building. It's been a treat to see people so excited.

That's all I have for now. Have a great week. Remember to keep those hands clean!

A few of us had a chance to visit a friend who is rehabilitating in a local nursing home at the moment. It was great to see him!

What's new in Thrive?

We're working with Firelands Local LLC to nominate an "Employee of the Month" each month to celebrate people who demonstrate awesomeness on the job.

Our employee of the month for Sept is Alex Asher. Alex always stays focused and works hard. He will do any task that is asked of him and he will help any of his coworkers if they need it. Thanks Alex!

DID YOU KNOW THAT

CLI offers an HPC after hours service-- "Thursday Date Night" support service? If you've got a significant other or a platonic bestie that you'd like to hit the town with, we can help you spend that hard-earned cabbage!

Thanks to the DODD ADS Quality Pilot Grant, CLI has a whole fresh new curriculum around technology and social media training-- including a lending library of 5G iPads that people can sign out and take home!

Tell Haven in you want to learn more.

Don't forget that CLI will help you plan & do fun stuff with your friends!

Don't be shy!

What a busy week it was. Production is in high gear. We are currently working on 6 different jobs for 4 different companies. That does not include shredding and boat wrap.

We processed nearly 30,000 pounds of paper, cardboard and boat wrap last week as well.

Last week we announced our program to collect and recycle yard signs. This is a picture of the bin you should be looking for when you drop off your unwanted signs.

Stay safe and enjoy the weather.

The Good News from the Good Works Cafe--

Friday the GWC crew were hard work filling all the lunch orders. We had a record day - 72 meals served. Great Job crew!

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir,

staffed entirely by volunteers with DD

with food donated by OHgo and other community partners!

Caitlyn is our Final GWC Weekly Goodies Winner! Thank you to our wonderful staff for everything you do over and above to make our days fun filled.

Question of the week

Q: I participate in CLI ADS activities, but some of my friends have really enjoyed CLI's new vocational classes. Can I take some of these new classes if I've said that I don't want to work?

A: Yes!!! Ohio (still) is an "Employment First" state, which means that all of us are supposed to consider competitive, community employment as the proper outcome for people with DD. Our job is to help our clients continually work toward this outcome-- BUT, we need to start from where each individual is and to allow everyone to progress at their own pace.

So, if you are currently on Path 4 to employment, which means that your ISP says you are not interested in any work-- we will be happy to work with your SSA to figure out how to add just these vocational classes, or just a few career exploration trips, or whatever! Person-centered means that the CLI client should be the person making the choices.
