People had it going on for Halloween SPIRIT week!

Way to show up!

John's usual--

Attached is a corrected 2023 CLI Regular Program Calendar. Thank you Carla Rospert for catching that I'd mismarked Easter this time around! CLI's regular day programs will be closed on Friday, April 7th, and Monday, April 10th (not the 14th & 17th). Sorry about that.

CLI staff did a super job photographing all the cool stuff people did to celebrate Halloween Spirit week.  It was really fun.  It's been more than a year since we were all isolating in small groups and I know that I forgot how fun & invigorating something so simple as costumes or derby hats can be.  It definitely made me happy to see people so excited.  It's easy to get so focused on the boring business aspects of providing services and kind of make the fun bits just part of a checklist rather than the whole point.  I think that I wasn't the only one affected this way.  You'll notice that this issue has a lot more pictures than we've had over the past couple weeks.  That just kind of happened without asking.  I think that it happened because everybody was having so much fun with it.  It's also true that it's much easier to take pictures of outfits than during a community-integrated activity where the staff attention is (rightfully) on helping people engage & connect.

I appreciate everyone's graciousness as we continue to tweak pick-up & drop-off times.  Things are probably going to feel pretty hectic until all of us at CLI are able to settle into the new routines.  We need more drivers for sure!  Next week we will be advertising for driver positions paying $17 per hour.  It's decent money for a fun job that will work around your schedule.  If you know anyone who might be interested, please have them contact me directly.

There's lots of talk about a bad flu season and of course more COVID.  We need to keep washing those hands and remembering to maintain a safe social distance when we can.  We're going to keep those masks on in the vans this winter.  We all hate them, but there's no way to spread out in a crowded vehicle.

Otherwise, that's all I have for now.  Have a great week!

John

Lots of action photos this week from lots of different endeavors!  The best thing about CLI is our people.  Clients & staff alike are very community minded.  We were lucky to get to help volunteers practically everywhere in the community.  One of these was headstone cleaning at Woodlawn Cemetery and another was working with other volunteers to maintain Norwalk's Teaching Garden.  One of the cool things about jumping into something new is that it can lead to new side interests like obituary research or just improving your fine motor tool skills.

Do you want to work and make money?

CLI & Firelands Local can help you!

Firelands Local LLC will be paying $10.10 per hour

Question of the week

Q: Do all Firelands Local LLC jobs really pay $10 per hour?  Even at the workshop?  How can you afford that?

A:  Firelands Local LLC's starting hourly wage is $9.30 per hour.  In January 2023 this will increase to $10.10.  We pay this rate for workshop jobs & work crews placed with other factories, etc.  We pay these wages the same way all businesses do-- our work crews have to do their work fast enough that amount of money the company (Firelands Local LLC) is paid by their customer is more than what we pay out to employees.  So far we've been able to pull this off-- but it does mean that when someone is scheduled to work, it's a real job with real quotas/expectations.  However, we believe that everyone has the right to work, so we're committed to figuring out ways to accommodate everyone.  We know that some workers can work independently for Firelands Local LLC, but that other workers might need help from CLI staff.  If you're willing to work hard, CLI & Firelands Local are committed to helping you do that.
