COVID is back in our local area again!

There have been quite a few cases among CLI staff & clients this fall. CLI follows all CDC recommendations regarding this and other pathogens.

Masks are still optional & CLI has them to share if anyone wants to mask up all the time or just during certain activities. Otherwise, let's all keep our hands clean!

One of the THRIVE to Community Employment Classes this week went to Walmart, pet supply and The Watering Can to visit local businesses and see what kind of jobs there are. Participants completed a scavenger hunt for what they saw when exploring these job sites-- like were the employees working together, were they smiling, what outfits were they wearing, etc. Also, what kind of businesses was it? Was it a retail store or a restaurant. These are important considerations when someone considers community job choices.

The Usual--

We're really excited about CLI's new vocational habilitation curriculum! We've always helped people earn money in the workshop-- and we've always helped people find & keep community jobs once they've decided that their personal goal. But what's different now is that we are providing a much more comprehensive & structured way of helping people explore the idea of what community employment might look like and considering the advantages and disadvantages of that type of work. The new CLI curriculum is also better at helping people improve their work-readiness skills, which are just as important for a job in the workshop job as anywhere else.

Firelands Local GM, James Johnson had a young man approach him because he wanted to increase his paid workshop hours each week. This was a great opportunity to talk about issues like attendance, productivity, etc. Ironically, one of the problems with the workshop traditionally is that we were too accommodating of things that would get you fired anywhere else.

Completely unrelated-- CLI offers afterhours community services, including round-trip transportation. Friday night high school football just started, so if you would like to arrange to watch a game with a friend or three-- let us know and we'll help you talk with your SSA to see if we can make that happen!

Have a great week!

This Week in THRIVE...

Data entry & online skills were a big part of the workshopping this week.

The group also continued to work on general work-readiness & "why do people want to work" topics. Work should have a point, right?

Interested in hanging out with your friends on the weekend? Check out our new THRIVE Program!

DID YOU KNOW THAT

CLI offers an HPC after hours service-- "Thursday Date Night" support service? If you've got a significant other or a platonic bestie that you'd like to hit the town with, we can help you spend that hard-earned cabbage!

Thanks to the DODD ADS Quality Pilot Grant, CLI has a whole fresh new curriculum around technology and social media training-- including a lending library of 5G iPads that people can sign out and take home!

Tell Haven in you want to learn more.

Don't forget that CLI will help you plan & do fun stuff with your friends!

Don't be shy!

Firelands Local LLC

It is hard to believe that October will be here tomorrow.

Election time is right around the corner. Speaking of elections, I am sure you have seen lots of signs showing up yards for many candidates. Some people may already be counting down the days until those signs are gone. Have you ever said to yourself "what happens to all those signs?" Ok, maybe I am the only one. The good news is that Firelands Local can recycle those signs. We process them just as we do all the boat wrap and shrink wrap. Eventually it becomes guardrail blocks that are used all over the state of Ohio.

Please scan the QR code on the flyer to see where your closest drop off location is.

Have a great week!

Question of the week

Q: There is a lot of COVID going around right now. What is CLI doing about COVID?

A: There is a lot of COVID and other illnesses spreading locally. CLI is working hard to limit any spread within our programs by isolating clients and staff who are sick. The CDC recommendations are that people stay home until they no longer have a fever, then they can return and wear a mask for the next 5 days.

CLI clients & staff who are not sick do not HAVE to wear a mask. However, we do have masks available if anyone would like one for all or part of your day. Just let us know.
