John's usual--
I hope everyone had a fun & safe labor day. Weather after Saturday wasn't great, but it was still a good weekend for us as we were able to do a little sailing on Saturday, catch up with family on Sunday, then enjoy a lazy day around the house yesterday.
There are only 3 weeks left until CLI's 9/24 reverse raffle and I still have LOTS of tickets left. The grand prize is $1000 & tickets are only $25. There are smaller cash prizes as well. All proceeds go directly to CLI and we'll use the money to support programs that aren't otherwise sufficiently funded, such as many of our community employment services. Community jobs are very mission-forward (obviously), but because CLI clients working these jobs are great workers and independent, they need minimal supports, often just transportation & 1 jobsite consultation per month. This makes Individual Employment Supports (IES) efficient from a tax-funded standpoint, but the ala carte and 100% customized nature also means that CLI's costs almost always exceed our reimbursement.
Anyway, the bottom line is that I need HELP selling these raffle tickets! Let me know if you want to buy one-- or even better, you also know 10 friends with cash burning a hole in their pocket!
CLI is looking for people's stories about outcomes that CLI (or another provider) helped you achieve. Ideally these would be tied to goals around community employment, or something that helps increase community membership-- however, it doesn't have to be a big capital letter Goal like that. We just need to promote cool things that people are doing around their own ambitions-- and also demonstrate how we are tapping into community resources to help people reach those goals. Learning to dance, to cook, or anything else is a worthy goal. Likewise, if you want to volunteer around animals or different community groups, those are worthy goals too. The key is that goals should be specific to your ambitions. Simply "exploring the community" isn't enough. CLI and other providers are paid to help you work toward what's important to you-- which is probably different from the the person on either side of you at any given moment. Just because people often have to share supports doesn't usually mean that they have the same personal goals. DODD wants us all to tell more individual success stories. So-- if CLI has helped you, please let me know so that I can interview you so that others can learn from you about what works-- and what does not work.
That's all I have for this week. As you can see-- we had 0 video recommendations to share this time around. This newsletter is more fun for everyone if others contribute stories, pictures & videos. Help me out!
