Thanksgiving Week 2022

This guy is on a streak at the Senior Enrichment Center. He just made their newsletter for winning the cornhole series & this past week he won a turkey!

Time to buy a lottery ticket . . .

John's usual--

It'll be a short week. CLI's regular programs are only open on Monday & Tuesday this week. However, we'll be driving people to community jobs as normal on Wednesday & Friday. If you're out and about uptown Norwalk for Small Business Saturday-- stop by Kenilee and say hi. I'll be working at the bowling alley all day on Saturday (because we're super short-staffed there too). Just a reminder that all CLI & Firelands Local employees are eligible for discounted bowling & drinks.

I'm especially looking forward to Thanksgiving this year because both of my kids will be home. My wife & I half joke that as parents we were kind of grateful for COVID because it gave us so much family time in 2020 with both of our kids stuck at home. That was a long time ago and it seems like such a long time since we've just been able to hang out together and play games. We're even going to run the Turkey Trot in Huron this year. I've attached a copy of the .pdf registration flyer if anyone else is interested.

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. I know that I have a lot to be thankful for. I'm blessed with family & friends. I'm lucky to work with (and for) so many kind, fun & generous people. Gosh, it feels like it might be time to start watching "It's a Wonderful Life" & "Elf" again.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

We all say it, but do we truly give thanks. It is very easy to take for granted stuff. Whether it is good health, nice car, new clothes, great sense of humor etc. No matter what your situation is, we all have things to be grateful for. We recently started a family tradition at the Johnson household for Thanksgiving. After we say grace, we go around the table and every says something specific they are grateful for. We even make the grandsons take part. I would encourage everyone to at least take a moment to reflect. Especially before the madness of Black Friday takes over.

This year Firelands Local will be closed on Black Friday. 

I apologize in advance. 

I have included a picture of one of the many turkeys we have around here.

Our next drop off day will be Wed. December 7 from 9-2.

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir Clubhouse. Thanks to the generous donations (money & food), CLI is able to take care of our neighbors and also get some real life restaurant and customer service job training.

Question of the week

Q: CLI used to do a Thanksgiving dinner. Are you going to do one this year?

A: Unfortunately, CLI is so short on staff this year that we just couldn't pull the dinner off. We would have liked to because we know that many people enjoy making cookies and all the food that we usually serve.

Fortunately, this year HCBDD is serving a Thanksgiving meal on the Monday before Thanksgiving (today - 11/21). This is open to everyone and CLI will be helping our clients participate in HCBDD's dinner.
