Week of 1/29/2024

Lots of school bowling events this time of year! Nothing quite like supervising 44 middle school kids glow-bowling!

Meet CLI's Darlene Sinwald!

Darlene has been with CLI for just over 8 months now-- just long enough to start earning paid time off. She says that her favorite part of the job is getting to interact with people, especially when she sees that what she is doing is helping to make someone happy.

This winter Darlene's been covering Open Bowling hours at Kenilee Lanes every Saturday from 1pm-9pm. Stop in and see her! Open bowling on Saturdays ends on March 30th this year, so don't wait too long if you want to bowl locally!

Darlene's interests when she's away from CLI are to spend time with her family and visiting Cedar Point. She said if she wasn't working with CLI, she doesn't know where she would have ended up working.

We're very grateful for all our friends at the Norwalk Senior Enrichment Center. They consistently go out of our way to include us in all sorts of cool stuff-- and we've met so many fun people there. It's definitely one of our favorites!

You have to be photo-ready at all times at CLI. We're great at sneaking up on people & stealing candids. Best advice, make sure to keep your best side chin-up facing any open door . . .

We ambushed this group crafting at the workshop. We're so fortunate to be able to tap in to Carole's passion for creativity!

The Norwalk Public Library is always a good go-to

when it comes to

accessing technology

and improving skills.

John's usual--

Not too much this week-- but in the next couple of weeks, we'll be ready to push out lots of new information about two things that we're really excited about-- the ADS Quality Pilot Curriculum (of course)-- and also a whole new array of services to young adults still in school. This latter initiative has been cooking for a few years, but up until this spring we haven't have the staff to pull it off. But it looks like 2024 is finally our year. Stay tuned!

FYI-- we're always looking for new activities to try. If you have ideas and/or ambitions that CLI can support-- lay 'em on us please!

That's all I have for now. Stay warm (and dry). Keep washing those hands. Flu & COVID are still out there.

John

Between the cold two weeks ago and the all the rain last week-- we've found lots of time for some oldies but goodies-- UNO & modeling clay-- in the workshop ADS space

Chair Aerobics at Norwalk's St. Peter's Lutheran Church has been a great addition to our wellness activities!

The Norwalk Ernsthausen Recreation Center is a great place to hang out when conditions are bad outside! There are lots of different things to do there

Firelands Local LLC

And now, a word from James--

We introduced our newest employee Andrew, recently. I wanted to show an update of him hard at work. Unfortunately, the only picture I could find was him sorting through the trash.

I also wanted to provide our 2023 recycling numbers. With your help we were able to recycling the following totals:

  • Shredded paper 523,320 lbs.
  • Cardboard        213,780 lbs.
  • boat/shrink wrap 85,480 lbs.

In total that is over 822,000 lbs. of material that was diverted from our landfills and repurposed. In 2024, we plan on going over the 1-million-pound mark.

If you're feeling generous & want to donate to GWC, here's what we're looking for this week:

Tomato Soup (6 Large cans or 12 small)

Beef or Chicken Bouillon (2 of each)

Chicken Broth (4 boxes or cans)

Small snack bags

Question of the week

Q: CLI closed 1 day last week and delayed a few days this week. How do I know if CLI is delayed or closed.

A: The most straight-forward way is to sign up for CLI's one-call notification system. We will send voicemails, texts & email whatever numbers & email address you give us. You can list multiple numbers and multiple people. We do also notify WLKR & WKFM (95.3 & 96.1).
