Week of 10/2/2023

(it's still nice out!)

https://nationaldaycalendar.com/october

John's usual--

I hope everyone's fall has been going well so far. We've been really trying to spend as much time outside as we can to enjoy the weather whenever it's nice. It won't be too much longer until spending time outside takes much more determination.

The question this week is about Kenilee Lane's offer to sponsor any bowling team that has at least 1 bowler with a developmental disability. This offer is open to other providers who might have their own full 3-person team that would like to bowl. The more the merrier. Bowling's kind of neat because even if your team isn't "integrated"-- meaning that everyone on the team does or does not have a DD-- you get 100% blended in with a different team every week. It's highly interactive. And there's beer, so . . .

Speaking of Kenilee Lanes-- Open Bowling starts for the winter on Saturday 1pm-9pm every Saturday, beginning with October 21st. CLI's Darlene Sinwald will be covering most of these Saturdays with me as her backup-- so stop out & see us.

DODD announced the Pilot ADS grant submission date (2pm on August 12th). I'm working on CLI's and will share the details of what we're proposing to do closer to the submission date. I think there will be a lot of competition for these grants, so fingers crossed!

It seems like a long time ago, but it was just last May that CLI finally allowed van drivers & riders to take their masks off in the vans. We don't have any plans to put them back on this fall, but it does make me nervous when I hear that Flu & Covid case numbers are up. Please stay home if you don't feel well. CLI will be following the CDC guidelines (fyi).

That's all I have for this week. Stay safe!

John

Do you know anyone looking for a special event space for your next party-- one that's definitely not cookie-cutter but still 100% wheelchair friendly? CLI rents out our property at 16 West Main Street anytime we're not using it. Just let Holly know if you'd like to take a look!

When CLI makes money renting out our spaces like 16 West or Kenilee Lanes-- that cold, hard cash goes right back into CLI programs. Win-Win!

Announcing CLI's newest service exclusively offered to people who are community employed--

because there's more to life than the daily grind!

We believe that lifetime learning and playing shouldn't stop after high school or after you get your

first "real" job! CLI wants to help you continue to grow and/or to enjoy the fruits of your labor!

CLI isn't all work and/or only focused on ensuring that people are active, productive community members-- we do the big fun, touristy group stuff too. This trip was to Marblehead's African Wildlife Safari (& Dinosaurs?)

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir Clubhouse.

Thanks to the generous donations (money & food), CLI is able to take care of our neighbors and also get some real life restaurant and customer service job training.

This free Friday Lunch is supported by donations. Are you interested in donating to CLI's Good Works Cafe? This is what we are looking for our October menu:

Small plastic snack bags

Question of the week

Q: CLI sponsors some bowling teams at Kenilee & helps some people participate. How does that work?

A: Kenilee Lanes will sponsor any team that has at least one bowler who has a developmental disabilitiy on it. What that means is we pay the sponsorship fee for the team & we don't charge for any practice bowling for people on a league team. The bowlers have to pay their league fees every week. CLI staff is available help with transportation and whatever other supports people need to participate.
