(a little colder, but it's still nice out!)

Thank you to everyone who collected buckeyes this week. We've found a use for the nut--

for this week's project anyway!

John's usual--

October is one of my favorite months. The leaves have just started to change. Usually the mosquitos are gone by now, although this fall's been an itchy one so far. We're still trying to help people enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. Make sure to dress in layers right now because often the day swings from cold to hot & back again.

The Kenilee Wednesday night women's bowling league started last week and I dropped in to check on things, only to find Jen Swicker subbing on a team that needed an extra bowler! CLI doesn't have our own team on this league this year, but we are supporting 2 individuals who belong to two different integrated teams, which is cool. I can't promise that Jen will be there every week, but I would encourage anyone to drop in for a beer and visit for a little bit. It's a friendly bunch. The Wednesday men's league starts 10/18. CLI has one team for sure, but is still looking for another bowler or two to complete a 2nd team. Let me know if you're interested. We can provide round trip transportation to anyone who lives anywhere between Willard & Norwalk.

Like every other DD provider in the state, CLI will be submitting our Pilot Grant proposal this Thursday, 10/12. I'll share the details of CLI's proposal in next week's newsletter. We've got some fun, ambitious things that we'd like to use the state's dime to try!

Finally, we learned this week that one of our long, long standing clients is moving on to another local provider. We believe that choice is good and that the only way to really know what you like is to really try lots of different experiences. So, while we're happy for Tom, we're going to miss him a lot. I definitely encourage him & any other former CLI client to stay in touch. Relationships matter. Just because we're no longer paid to provide a service for someone doesn't mean that we don't want to stay invested in that relationship. Tom's a great guy and is loved by everyone. I know that he'll be just as successful with his new provider.

Question of the week

Q: CLI sponsors some bowling teams at Kenilee & helps some people participate. How does that work?

A: Kenilee Lanes will sponsor any team that has at least one bowler who has a developmental disabilitiy on it. What that means is we pay the sponsorship fee for the team & we don't charge for any practice bowling for people on a league team. The bowlers have to pay their league fees every week. CLI staff is available help with transportation and whatever other supports people need to participate.
