John's usual--
We've had some questions about what the new ADS Quality Pilot Project means for CLI. Part of the difference is that we're using a new (to us) DODD-approved curriculum instead of making our own. See the FAQ section for more about this SEEC curriculum that we're using. The biggest differences that we think our clients and families will see will be the new CLI tools we're implementing to help people do better outcome-based planning-- that ideally translate into community activities to support each person's objectives. The other big item that we're pretty sure that people will notice will be our 5G iPad Lending Library. Some of our new client offerings will be to help people enhance their use of devices, applications and social media. Participants in these programs will be able to borrow these internet-equipped devices to take home.
I am very grateful that DODD included CLI in this grant. The biggest benefit (IMO) for us is that the grant provides funds that will enable CLI to allocate a decent portion of Haven Helmstetter's time toward constant ADS quality improvement-- and coaching staff in real time. I'm excited to be able to better advantage ourselves of Haven's skills as a Licensed Occupational Therapist. We at CLI have believed for a long time that we as a system need to figure out a better way to help people build their personal plans in ways that truly support their ambitions both in terms of personal development and career. Life should be way more than just marking time.
In April CLI will be launching our new Transitional Youth Programs for young people between the age of 14-23. I'm very excited about this because if our DD system is going to change, it has to start with this cohort. We must stop allowing young adults to languish in traditional day programs. 10 years of that and you're really not fit for much else. DODD has authorized so many new resources for people with DD. I'm excited about the long-term prospects of braiding remote supports with ADS community + Individual Employment Supports so that people no longer have to choose a 9-3 daycare model in order to ensure safety, stay within their budget, and/or have a social life. But for now-- CLI's new Transitional Youth Programs will start with after-school clubs, Friday night school sporting events, and Saturday activities. I know that Haven, Roxanne & Grace are putting the final touches on the calendars for this programming, so we should be ready to share that next week.
Hopefully everyone got the one call last night reminding you that CLI is not a government agency or a bank-- so we're part of the working world on President's Day. If you did NOT get the one-call. Please let us know so that we can make sure that your contacts are all up to date in our one-call distribution list.
Looks like a slightly warmer week coming up-- maybe not even a ton of rain this time? Hard to believe that we're more than halfway through February already. Have a great week!
John
