Week of May 6, 2024

https://nationaldaycalendar.com/may

Last week a few of us were able to go visit a friend in Willard that we haven't seen for too long. We'll probably organize another trip to see Mike again in a couple weeks. Let Donna know if you'd like to be included next time.

John's usual--

I spent the latter half of last week in Toledo at the OPRA conference. OPRA stands for the Ohio Providers Resource Association and is essentially the lobby & trade group for DD service providers in Ohio. While it's hard to get away from the normal weekly routine, I find these kinds of networking/training events really productive-- both in terms of staying up to speed with what's unfolding in Ohio & in terms of learning from peers in other parts in the state. There are so many interesting things going on around our state, facilitated by many different providers. It's inpiring. Overall I'm proud of how CLI measures up to other programs and other places-- especially given how small we are. But still, I think we could learn a lot by visiting other programs. I'd like to start planning 2 day trips each month sending small groups out to tour other programs to see what we can learn and maybe copy here. Road trips are fun. Stay tuned for that!

Cedar Point is almost open! Roxanne & Grace are getting passes because CLI will be offering day trips to Cedar Point for both our Transitional Youth Clients and our community employed clients who often get left out of the normal day program social/fun stuff. Let Haven know if you're interested!

The warm weather has been nice! I have a very ratty pair of running thermal pants that I've almost thrown away, but then we keep getting more cold weather. Maybe now? Let's all make a point to enjoy any nice weather we get. It's a gift!

That's all I have. Have a great week!

John

Carole Johnson volunteers her time every Tuesday afternoon to teach an arts & crafts class at the workshop. We figured that the least we could do is make her a proper uniform for for being CLI's Free Crafting Queen!

Incidentally-- these classes are open to anyone, so reach out to anyone at CLI and let us know if you'd like to learn more!

Thanks to the DODD ADS Quality Pilot Grant, CLI has a whole fresh new curriculum around technology and social media training-- including a lending library of 5G iPads that people enrolled in these classes can sign out and take home! Tell Haven in you want to learn more.

It's boatwrap season & time for some training on Firelands Local Recycling's new compactor truck!

This should be a big, big year for boatwrap collection as this new truck will dramatically increase productivity per driver hour.

Question of the week

Q: Who gets to sign up for Cedar Point trips with CLI?

A: CLI will be offering Cedar Point activities to 2 group this summer & fall. The two groups are young people still in school and older adults who are community employed and are interested in socializing outside of work with their friends.

Interested? Let Haven know!
