John's usual--

So, just a quick word of explanation about the photo strip to the right which I realize looks a bit like a slow-mo mugging in which the victim is left without their shoes. We're a little bit about sports at CLI & there are those among us who are always looking for reasons to celebrate and/or harass fans of certain teams. In this case CLI's Julie Moffit found a pair of sparkly Bengals shoes for a fan. You kind of had to be there.

We heard last week that DODD has received CMS approval to push out the community ADS pilot grant that I mentioned in the newsletter last week. CLI will be applying for this. Stay tuned to find out whether CLI is chosen for this grant-- and if we are, what new opportunities it means will be available.

For those of you who have been inconvenienced that the wheelchair lift in the Pink Transit Van has been out of commission for the past 2+ weeks-- it has finally back in good working order. Usual apologies & thanks for your patience. CLI's fleet is showing its age this year. We're hoping to add a couple minivans to our fleet in 2024 so that we can limit the miles on the expensive accessible vehicles and so that the age of our fleet is staggered so that we're not dealing with old vehicle problems on all 16 vans, cars & trucks at the same time.

We should start getting some fall color over the next 2-3 weeks, so we're going to really work on helping people experience the good parts of this Ohio season. However, winter is coming, so it's time to make sure that CLI's one-call system has the correct number for you & anyone that you feel needs to know about delays and cancellations. We'll be running a couple test calls in October. I'll point them out in this newsletter as the occur. You'll want to make sure that you are getting these calls.

That's all I have for this week. Weather looks good, so spend some time outside!

Do you know anyone looking for a special event space for your next party-- one that's definitely not cookie-cutter

but still 100% wheelchair friendly?

CLI rents out our property at 16 West Main Street

anytime we're not using it.

Just let Holly know if you'd like to take a look!

When CLI makes money renting out our spaces like 16 West or Kenilee Lanes-- that cold, hard cash goes right back into CLI programs. Win-Win!

We've got that! Just let Carole know & she'll hook you up.

It was Tie-Dye last week & there was zero collateral damage!

Announcing CLI's newest service exclusively offered to people who are community employed--

because there's more to life than the daily grind!

We believe that lifetime learning and playing shouldn't stop after high school or after you get your

first "real" job! CLI wants to help you continue to grow and/or to enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Who says dessert doesn't make a good lunch?

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir Clubhouse.

Thanks to the generous donations (money & food), CLI is able to take care of our neighbors and also get some real life restaurant and customer service job training.

 ** Important new changes! **

Due to the increased need in our community,

we will no longer take pre-orders for the free lunches.

We are open from 11:30 until meals run out. The limit per person will be 6 so we can better serve those in need. Sorry for any inconvenience.

If you'd like to learn more or would like to donate to this cause--

please contact Kay Schoen by email at

Question of the week

Q: What is ADS? What is Voc Hab? Does it matter?

A: ADS stands for "Adult Day Supports" and Voc Hab stands for "Vocational Habilitation". The short version is that Voc Hab's goal is to help people train for and achieve a community job-- and ADS is everything else that isn't a "residential" support. Residential support's goal is to help each person live as independently in their home as can.

In some ways, these categories are more about how providers bill rather than what specific activity someone wants to do any given day. When people sit down with their ISP team and discuss their personal ambitions and identify goals they want providers to help with over the coming year, the SSA then authorizes the provider(s) that person chooses to provide the category of service that best fits the person's goals. If someone says that they don't want to work, then the SSA will probably authorize only ADS and/or Residential services. If the person is interested in work, even just at the workshop, then at least some of your services will be Voc Hab. Many people have plans that include all 3 categories of services.
