John's usual--
I hope that everyone enjoyed the long Easter Holiday weekend. I know that I and the rest of CLI staff have really appreciated the break. We've been so short-staffed for so long that it's really hard to for anyone to take much time off. This is also the first weekend that Kenilee Lanes hasn't been been open or had any private rentals in quite a while.
CLI has been really relying on the workshop building for our old school (ADS) large group day services and for our old school paid work training services (Voc-Hab). As we get ready for the commissioners to take over ownership of this building from HCBDD, it will eventually mean (probably in 2024) that CLI's footprint will be limited to the shop floor, the loading docks & the shred room. So, long-term many of CLI's Voc-Hab services will still happen at the shop. I think that the shift of the workshop towards a shared community space is a good thing for all concerned. I think that we as staff do a better job when we know that there are lots of visitors in & out of our world-- and I think that there are many more teachable moments that happen in integrated settings. Shifting our large-group ADS services to other spaces that we have access-- such as the reservoir clubhouse or the UCC Undercroft or other isn't really a big deal other than in the sense that little changes are sometimes surprisingly disruptive. At any rate, I'm grateful that the Huron Commissioners are so supportive of CLI's mission and I look forward to working with them as the new property owners.
I know that people really enjoyed visiting the Cleveland Aquarium last week. We'd like to know if people would like to do more of this kind of road trip now that we can count on the weather being decent. Let us know.
Enjoy the week. The weather forecast looks really good all week!
