The Usual--

It seems like I missed a really fun time at last week's picnic. I was lucky to be able to take the week off and do some little boat sailing & camping on my Interlake sailboat. The weather was mostly good. The wind was really nice. Strong, but not too strong. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the picnic & we're looking forward to getting back to having more of these kinds of special events, and maybe even committing so doing an annual August picnic every year again! We'll see . . .

So, the Provider Compliance Department of the Ohio Department of DD (DODD) will be onsite with CLI beginning on Monday, November 3rd, this fall. As I said last week, we've been expecting this review for a while now. While it's always a little bit of work to go through the paper files and policies to get ready, we're excited for the opportunity to get feedback about what CLI is doing right and what tweaks we should make to better comply with DODD best practices. We've invested a ton of energy in transforming CLI's default settings as far into the community as we can. We definitely want to make even more progress in that direction. We welcome the chance to get first-hand input from DODD staff, especially in terms of what direction Ohio will be moving over the next few years. We'll share what we learn in future newsletters.

That's all I have for this week. Remember that summer isn't really over until September 21st. We still have lots left!

Question of the week

Q: I heard a rumor that CLI wants to move out of the workshop. Is that true?

A: Not really. CLI would like to find a different hub for our day service programs, so that we could be within walking distance to community resources. However, Firelands Local LLC would continue to operate the workshop for document destruction, assembly, and other jobs. CLI staff would continue to support FL workers according to their ISPs.

CLI encourages you to contact our politicians to make sure that they know how important and relevant DD services are to you. The reality is that $.66 out of every dollar spent on people with DD in Ohio comes from federal Medicaid dollars. Your voice matters!
