Week of December 1st 2025

Thanks to everyone who supported CLI's Wreath Fundraiser!

We enjoyed putting them together this year!

Have you seen anyone from CLI do something that impressed you? Did we do anything that made you wish we hadn't?

Take 3 minutes and fill out a quick survey to tell us about it. There's a FREE Ohio Lottery Scratch Off ticket in it for you-- and we'll keep it confidential if you want us to.

The Usual--

Thank you everyone who participated in one of our fundraisers last month-- either by buying a wreath or hanging out with Holly & yours truly at our pop up jazz bar at 16 West Main Street last Saturday night during light up Norwalk. We have a long way still to go with the Kenilee Lanes Wheelchair Accessibility Project fundraising-- but we're definitely making progress. In addition to our own fundraisers-- last week we were awarded $50,000 from the David and Jacquie Clark Family Foundation, $1,000 from the Norwalk Eagles Club. This means that we've more than met the match requirement for the $15,000 Challenge Grant offered to CLI by the Randolph & Estelle Dorn Foundation. As of right now, we've raised $91,000 toward our total goal of $207,000. That's not nothing!

There's been a recent snag with public transportation in Huron County that will take effect on January 17th. The agency that administers that, NCAT, has given notice that they will not be providing any rides for Huron County residents after that date. CLI is working with the Huron County Commissioners, Job & Family Services, the Senior Enrichment Center, and the Huron County Board of DD to sort out how to ensure that people with DD can still get where they need to go-- especially to community jobs. Still, there are bumps coming at any of you who currently use NCAT for your regular transportation.

We closed on Tuesday this week (December 2nd) because every school in our local area had already closed and people seemed to be really worried. We don't like to close if we don't have to. You should have gotten a 1-call first alerting you to the delay and then a 2nd call alerting you that we would be closing. If you did not get this call-- or if you would like to add a number or multiple number to be notified by our 1-call system, please let us know.

There are only 20 days left until Christmas! Hard to believe. Have a great weekend.

John

Firelands Local LLC

We're about a month into the switch up of having Andrew Smith with Firelands Local LLC run the shop floor without CLI staff. It's been going great! Workers seem happy and the shop floor productivity has really increased.

The Good News from the Good Works Cafe--

Question of the week

Q: What's different about the workshop floor? Is CLI staff still helping people work at the workshop?

A: The short answer is that yes, we still help people work and get paid on the workshop production floor and in the shred room. Firelands Local is paying $11.01/hour in 2026!

The longer answer is that CLI is contracting with Firelands Local staff so that Andrew Smith is now in charge of the workshop production crew. This is partly because CLI has had trouble recruiting (we're very choosy)-- and partly because Firelands staff is better at making sure that the production goals get met and the whole crew doesn't cost Firelands Local more money that it makes for the day. It's not easy.

CLI encourages you to contact our politicians to make sure that they know how important and relevant DD services are to you. The reality is that $.66 out of every dollar spent on people with DD in Ohio comes from federal Medicaid dollars. Your voice matters!
