Week of January 27th

We're so happy to have this guy back with us!

It's been great indoor jigsaw puzzle weather, but we are excited to get back out there!

Have you seen a CLI Staff Member (or a gaggle of us) do something that impressed you? Did we do anything that made you wish we hadn't?

Take 3 minutes and fill out a quick survey to tell us about it. There's a FREE Ohio Lottery Scratch Off ticket in it for you-- and we'll keep it confidential if you want us to.

CLI is kicking off our Kenilee Lanes Accessibility Project fundraising 2.0 this week with a Valentine's Day Carnation Sale. All profits will go toward completing the wheelchair accessibility at Kenilee Lanes in 2026. We raised $80,000 right before the pandemic, but then had to give almost all of it back to donors when material prices shot up. Our target is $150,000 over the next 12 months.

The Usual--

Hopefully, the really bad weather we had last week is behind us. We'll provide updates via our one-call phone system (also email & text). I apologize for the disruption. We don't like canceling.

We'll be starting two new initiatives the February newsletter. The first is an on-going "CLI staff kudos" & "Frustration o' the day" feature. We want feedback, both good & bad. You'll have the option to be anonymous if you'd like. Or you can give us your name so that we can follow up to get more information, but tell us to keep it confidential so that only I & Holly know. Or we'll give you full credit if that's what you want. I & the CLI Board believe that quality services must be constantly improving and they must fit what our clients want.

The second initiative is that we will begin printing this newsletter to pass out to anyone who has a hard time going online. There will be a pretty significant difference in quality with the printed copy-- particularly with the formatting, but we think it will help people keep up better with what's going one (and see their pictures). The online version is way better-- and you can find all the old copies from previous weeks for the past 4+ years by going to our website: www.CLIsupports.com.

Have a good week. I'm hoping that we'll be able to be open for the full five days! Lots of illnesses going around, so keep washing those hands.

-John

What's new in Thrive?

The past few weeks in THRIVE we have been talking about Healthy Relationships. Every group had great discussions about what makes a true good friendship. We also discussed how to stay safe.

For the next couple of months we will be talking about various topics such as horticulture, personal finance, cooking, and music to name a few. By exploring these topics with hands-on activities everyone will be better able to identify their interests which can help guide them to new and exciting activities, and of course increase independence!

Our first topic is horticulture. Check out the pictures about to see THRIVE's new grow tables, custom made and donated by Kay & Paul Schoen!

The Good News from the Good Works Cafe--

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir,

staffed entirely by volunteers with DD made from food donated by OHgo and other

community partners!

Members of GWC toured the Second Harvest Food Bank in Lorain. We learned where the food products we use for our community Friday meals are from.

Question of the week

Q: How does CLI decide whether to close for bad weather? Will CLI close if it gets really cold?

A: Holly, Haven & John start talking about the expected weather the night before. We then touch base at 6 am to discuss road conditions, safety level, and how many local schools have cancelled. This last part is tricky as schools seem more quick to close than they have in the past.

CLI does not want to close unless absolutely necessary. We know that some people really depend on us to stay open. It gets tricky when all the local schools cancel because we feel that we have to follow suit in order not to appear negligent.

As far as cold goes-- CLI picks all of our clients up at their house and we want people to wait for their ride inside. This means that really cold conditions don't have to shut us down. We may delay in order to error on the side of safety. Again, it will get tricky if all the schools close because we do feel that if all the schools are deeming it unsafe, then we also need to be cautious.

Keep in mind that even if CLI does close regular day program, often other services will go on-- such as community employment transportation, community integrated club activities, etc.
