Week of June 23rd, 2025

Have you seen anyone from CLI do something that impressed you? Did we do anything that made you wish we hadn't?

Take 3 minutes and fill out a quick survey to tell us about it. There's a FREE Ohio Lottery Scratch Off ticket in it for you-- and we'll keep it confidential if you want us to.

We were hoping to feature some sailing action shots in the Sandusky Sailing Club's Adaptive Sailing program. Unfortunately, they had to cancel due to the heat index. There was a good breeze, so the group stopped by the Jackson Street Pier for a leisurely stroll. Look for sailing pictures later this summer!

The Usual--

I need help selling these tickets!!!

100% of what we raise for the next year will go toward making Kenilee Lanes Bowling Center fully wheelchair accessible for our clients and the public at large. We're pretty excited about this project because we think people will be really wowed by the finished design. However, it's a big lift! Our target construction date is May, 2026. This means we have 11 more months to raise $195K.

If you are wondering where all this money will be used. This is our preliminary estimated budget:

Architect or Structural Engineer contract - $6,000

Permits - $3,000

Demolition - $10,000

Rough out interior (restroom + stairway + raise floor) - $70,000

Electrical - $20,000

Plumbing - $15,000

Counter, front kitchen + back galley build out - $25,000

Wheelchair accessible entranceway & facade improvements - $40,000

Misc. - $18,000

Subtotal: $207,000

We're still not out of the woods on whether we'll keep the current levels of funding for Ohio's DD system. However, Ohio's entire system is propped up by Medicaid funding, which is federal. I heard a statehouse aide once say that people would be shocked at how few actual phone calls our representatives and senators get-- and how big of an impact those phone calls can have. Medicaid support for DD services in Ohio needs everyone' continued advocacy-- not just during budget talks, but anytime you see/hear something you like or something that worries you. If you are in a letter/email writing mood-- or just really love phone calls, our US politicians are:

CLI owes the All Ports Yacht Club in Venetian Marina a big THANK YOU! for another great year on the water. The weather was absolutely perfect and the APYC volunteers were generous with their time, their boats, and their gasoline. I know how hard it is to find volunteers, so my hat's off to Joanne & Tom, who have been coordinating this event for many, many years. The All Ports Yacht Club adopted CLI more than 30 years ago! Good people.

That's all I have for now. Have a great weekend!

John

What's new in Thrive?

THRIVE class went to the greenhouse as part of horticulture club this month!

Coming up for June we will be outside working in our garden. Someday this overgrown garden will be a beautiful bed filled with plants. The clients will be taking a trip to a greenhouse, choosing their plants, and planting them. Hoping for great weather during June!

We are always looking for donations however, so if anyone has garden tools to donate and/or a connection for soil, please let me know!

We have a couple of "Shout Outs" to celebrate this month! Congrats to David, Alex, Charles, and Clyde for being recognized by staff for your great work ethic!

The Good News from the Good Works Cafe--

Question of the week

Q: How do I get my picture in this newsletter?

A: Two easy ways! You can just email us your picture (or your article or art or anything really) -- or if you are around any CLI staff, just tell them to take whatever action shot you'd like for the next newsletter. They'll make sure it gets in!

There is lots of good (free) music around locally this summer-- find out more by clicking on these links:
