John's usual--

So, the picture at right needs some 'splaining. In 1999 I was working for HCBDD recreation program and 11 of us piled in the (new at the time) 1998 old Dodge turtle-top wheelchair van for a holloween party in Mansfield in full costume. My costume that year was along the lines of Phil Hartman's Susan from SNL. Everyone else's attire was equally over-the-top, which was great at the party, not so appropriate around midnight when we were pulled over by a young State Highway Patrol officer when we were obviously lost trying to find the back way back to Willard. If I wouldn't have been the driver, it would have been pretty funny. The van passengers certainly thought it was & I could barely keep everyone quiet enough to work everything out with the officer-- including how to stop going in circles. Good times. So that was 24 years ago. However, for the last 24 years Monica, pictured right holding the peach polka-dot dress, has loudly bellowed "John Schwartz, where's your dress?!" in every place we've run into each other-- usually in fairly straight public places like the store, the bank, or the BMV. Over the years she's managed to recruit a few younger hecklers and the incidents of me having to explain the whereabouts of my dress have increased. I've fallen into a pat set of answers along the lines of that I lost it after (someone in the room currently) wore it to a party and ruined it. Anyway, I help out on the production floor of Firelands Local's workshop every Wednesday morning. When I came back from vacation last week, Monica & Christine (with some help from a certain Donna Scheid) gifted me with a set of 2 dresses so that I'd always have one handy. Pretty funny stuff.

All Ports Yacht Club will be taking us for boat rides again this year. Believe it or not, this will be our 22nd time doing this. We missed 2 Junes due to COVID in 2020 & 2021. That's this Friday. Morning routes will pick everyone up approximately 10 minutes early on Friday. We'll be putting out a 1-call later this week about it. If you don't get this 1-call, make sure to tell CLI staff so that we can make sure that your number is on our call list.

Also-- there will be more opportunities to do some boating this summer-- both power & sail. If you like boat rides, make sure that we know that you are interested.

That's all I have. Have a great week!

John

Question of the week

Q: I heard that morning transportation route times will be a little earlier this Friday? Is that true? Why?

A: Yes, AM transportation routes this Friday will be approximately 10 minutes earlier this week to accommodate the extra switching around for people going on boat rides with our friends at All Ports Yacht Club out of Venetian Marina. BTW-- we will being sending out a 1-call message later this week to remind people about Friday's earlier pick-up times. LET US KNOW IF YOU DO NOT GET A 1-CALL MESSAGE so we can update our 1-call distribution list to include your #.
