John's usual--
It's been in the paper recently, but in case you haven't heard yet, the Huron County Commissioners are purchasing the workshop building & garages from HCBDD. The plan is to relocate the Huron County Transit to operate from the former CLI workshop & grounds. CLI & Firelands Local LLC are excited to share this space with the Commissioners. In our opinion, the more public use this property gets the better it is for CLI programs and clients. The Commissioners are very supportive of CLI's mission and has pledged to continue renting the workshop floor to Firelands Local LLC moving forward. That being said, while we are comfortable with this change in who we are renting from, and excited to have our home base be more naturally integrated-- we have some work to do to get ready for the change. The main thing is that CLI has accumulated a significant amount of "junk" (aka "another man's treasure") over the decades. We need to clean house in a big way and are working toward a public auction later this spring. As you stroll around the shop & grounds, if you see green tape on anything-- it's going up for sale. If you see blue tape (as modeled by Rhonda above right)-- we're hanging on to it. We'll include more details about the exact auction date and maybe feature some interesting items as we move forward.
It's been 5 months since November & we're about to lose Jimmy Johnson again to Cedar Point for another season. Tammy's planning on collecting lots of guerilla surprise Jimmycam shots this coming week that we can share in next week's newsletter, so we can all look forward to that. Jimmy does a nice job and is popular with our staff & our clientele. It's a good example of why the DD field needs to address that provider agencies like CLI can't offer competitive wages. We would love to keep Jimmy on board, and he's already planning for his return in the fall, but the difference in what he'll make over the 6 month Cedar Point season is really significant. We understand that everyone has to take care of their family first. Money matters. Our system is not going to achieve the outcomes we want for people if staff salaries aren't enough to support the outcomes that they want/need for their own families.
Happy St. Patrick's Day, when we're all a little bit Irish apparently. Then we get a break for Easter before Cinco De Mayo, when we'll double down on our Mexican roots. Have a great week!

Volunteering and/or working in the community is an important way to meet new people and expand your relationships. One of the CLI volunteers at the Norwalk Salvation Army recently celebrated a birthday and was treated to a surprise party by the Salvation Army staff! | |
Of course, we'll always jump at the chance to celebrate a birthday at the workshop (this was for our own Jen Swicker who is apparently a very rough 29 this year). No cake here, just hairnets & sweet, sweet harmonizing! | |

Our annual Big Free Community Shred day is in March!
This year it will be on Friday March 31st from 10-5.
The first 500 pounds are free!
This is for drop off only and only on that day.

CLI is still running our virtual Bingo--
We're doing it on Thursday afternoons and it is open to anyone, whether at home or another day service provider location. It's a lot of fun and a good way to connect with people that you might not otherwise get to see.

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir Clubhouse.
Thanks to the generous donations (money & food), CLI is able to take care of our neighbors and also get some real life restaurant and customer service job training.
