SAVE THE DATE: TECH FEST 2023

In collaboration with OSDA, the Clearwater Council of Governments (COG) will be hosting a Tech Fest on June 27th from 10am to 1pm at Camden Falls in Tiffin, Ohio.

Lots of vendors will be on hand to share information. All are welcomed!

John's usual--

Tonight is CLI's Free Bowling & Pizza Party for high school kids with DD from 6pm-8pm. Our agenda is simply to give the kids a fun social experience while parents can talk & learn from other parents and also meet SSAs from County Board of DD. N2Y volunteers will be on hand to keep the balls rolling & pizzas coming. I was at a career fair last week and met up with a graduating senior who was on the NHS Bowling Team and she might be able to make it as well, which would be a good opportunity for any aspiring bowlers looking to improve their game.

Also this week Kenilee Lanes will be hosting Pleasant Street Elementary students for some end-of-year bowling. CLI's Up Your Alley participants will have their hands full running balls & dishing shoes on Monday! Then the following week the Main Street School's 5th grade class will be at Kenilee.

Over the next few weeks, CLI will be expanding our evening & weekend services to better support people who are working day shifts so that they can both hang out with friends outside of work and also keep working toward personal and/or career goals. We're pretty excited about this, so stay tuned.

Have a great week!

John

So every week we ask staff for pictures of what they did. This was Swick's contribution from last week--

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir Clubhouse.

Thanks to the generous donations (money & food), CLI is able to take care of our neighbors and also get some real life restaurant and customer service job training.

If you'd like to learn more or would like to donate to this cause--

Question of the week

Q: Why is CLI offering free Bowling-Pizza Parties to high school kids with developmental disabilities?

A: We believe that Ohio's DD system (statewide & here) needs to do a much better job preparing kids and their parents for after graduation. Specifically we worry that 99% of parents don't understand at all the workings and limitations of the adult service options. We want to enable parents to meet other parents and representatives from the County Boards of DD way before graduation. Many kids with DD have 1:1 aides all the way through school and only learn after graduation that the adult world doesn't provide that support. Other kids know that they want to work after high school, but aren't adequately supported with wrap-around services to ensure that they have meaningful lives outside of work. Recent studies have shown that two of the biggest health problems are loneliness and consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. CLI worries that our system is setting young people up for bad outcomes-- and if the people like us (providers, schools, County Boards of DD, etc.) don't do anything differently, then nothing will get better.

Family Engagement Survey

Attention: People with lived experience and families

DODD works to communicate and connect with families and people with lived experience.

To align our communication and resources with these preferences, we

would like to ask people with disabilities and their families to take this short survey about what DODD family resources they use and how they were involved with DODD during the past year. The results will inform DODD how to best support families in the future. This survey closes May 31, 2023.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
