Week of May 8th, 2023

We spent a ton of time the last rainy week working toward our wellness goals indoors at the Ernsthausen Recreation Center. We're lucky to have such a great community resource. We use the pool, the courts, and the walking track all the time. We've also really enjoyed all the great exercise classes. The instructors have been great and always go out of their way to make sure that we feel welcome. If you'd like to learn more about the Ernsthausen Center-- click the link below.

John's usual--

Well, we certainly can't complain about the weather this weekend. It was a good one! I hope that everyone got a chance to spend some time outdoors. It's been such a wet, cold spring so far. I'm hoping we've finally turned a corner?

Kenilee Lanes is hosting lots of end-of-year school bowling parties this month. This means IRL opportunities for people interested in direct recreational customer service. So far we've hosted kids from Western Reserve, Monroeville & EHOVE. Next week is all Pleasant Street Elementary students. Full-disclosure, running the bowling alley is a lot of work considering that it's not really any of our day jobs, but it's also been rewarding to make & develop so many community connections. And-- all net income from Kenilee Lanes' operations go back to CLI to support our operations. We still need every dime we can get our hands on!

Please help us get the word out about our free bowling/pizza event for high school students with DD next Monday. We're really trying to help kids and their families better anticipate how different the adult services are after they graduate. The more support someone is getting right now from schools, the more important it is to start preparing 3-4 years before graduation.

Have a great week & don't forget about Mother's Day next Sunday!

John

CLI is still running our virtual Bingo--

We're doing it on Thursday afternoons and it is open to anyone, whether at home or another day service provider location. It's a lot of fun and a good way to connect with people that you might not otherwise get to see.

Click here to have the Bingo link emailed to you!

CLI's Good Works Cafe offers a free community lunch every Friday afternoon at the Norwalk Reservoir Clubhouse.

Thanks to the generous donations (money & food), CLI is able to take care of our neighbors and also get some real life restaurant and customer service job training.

Question of the week

Q: I want to go on the June 16th Boat Ride, but I use a wheelchair. Can CLI help me get out on Lake Erie?

A: Absolutely. We're working with the Sandusky Sailing Center again this summer. They haven't been able to restart the part of the program that helps people with significant physical disabilities yet, but CLI will help you get out on either a head fishing boat or even just a day trip to one of the islands.

Just let us know!
