John's usual--
I hope you had a great holiday. I really enjoyed getting together with family & friends-- and for the most part I kept the overeating under control. Gluttony is definitely my strongest of the 7 Deadlies.
I've enjoyed the warm November, but winter is going to be here at some point, which means that CLI vans will be navigating icy roads again soon. I tell CLI staff that I'd rather have them arrive late & safe. Keep in mind that pick-up & drop-off times are approximate-- kind of like the "Pirates Code". Please keep an eye out for your scheduled ride and be ready to board as soon as the van pulls in your drive. Some vans have 9 riders on and if everyone takes 5 extra minutes to come out to meet us, it means that we're burning through 45 minutes of the morning sitting in a van instead of what we're supposed to be doing. Life's too short.
Ohio's minimum wage goes up to $10.10 in January. Firelands Local pays this wage for jobs in the workshop and in outside work crews in area factories. CLI & Firelands Local want people with DD to make as much money-- it's one of our main mission points. However, wages have been increasing more quickly than Firelands Local has been able to increase their prices to customers-- and CLI's not allowed to raise our prices. This means that the only way that we can afford to pay more is to increase productivity. For people scheduled by Firelands Local to work at the shop-- this means you are going to have to keep that focus on doing your assigned work task quickly & correctly.
We believe that everyone has the right to work-- and we understand that some people are quicker than others. Our job is to figure out accommodations around each person's abilities. However, bad work habits are something else-- like using your phone when not on break, sitting at your workstation and not working, leaving your work station unnecessarily, slowing down coworkers, etc. It's CLI's purpose to help people develop real world job skills. For what it's worth, you can absolutely choose to clock out to make a phone call or take care of any personal business anytime you want.
That's all I have. Have a great 5-day week!
John
