John's Usual Excuses & Apologies-- Ok-- lot's going on this week as CLI re-opens day programs. Due to new guidelines from the Ohio Department of DD, things will have to look quite a bit different. How exactly? Get ready to gear up! Not all of us will look like George Clooney in our masks & glove, but we're going to have to wear them 24/7 anyway. The biggest change is that the workshop building can only be used by 20 people total-- including staff, clients, plumbers, etc. And it can't rotate. It's 20 identified individuals. We know that many people want to start making money again working for Firelands Local LLC. For those of you on the shred crew, that will still happen at the shop. Other jobs may have to be moved to alternate spaces. We'll definitely have to blow up one bridge at a time as we figure this out together. CLI has gotten permission to use both 16 West Main Street & 38 West Seminary for up to 8 clients + 2 staff at each space for therapeutic day programs for our clients whose physical needs require special restrooms & other facilities. CLI will be carving out safe places in the community where we can build meaningful activities. The larger community needs our help, so we'll be looking for ways that we can pay it forward and really help our neighbors. Transportation has been a HUGE debate over the past month. Currently we're only allowed 1 person per van. However, this week we learned that it is likely that the state will double, possibly triple that limit to 2 or maybe 3 passengers per van. Only 1 person at a time is a no-go, but we can work with 3. In the meantime, we may be reaching out to families to help get people to us. This Wednesday will be our last week that we'll be able to deliver activity bags. We need to focus on providing real-life services for the next couple of weeks. However, if you aren't quite ready to join us right now-- but these activity bags or other virtual services are helpful to you, please call your SSA. We will be happy to do it if that is your best option right now. I will start hosting a live Q&A session every Monday. We'll start this week on Facebook since most people seem to follow us there vs. Google Hangouts. Today's session is at 1pm. So-- quite a bit of change, but we'll sort it out -- and come out the other side even better. CLI's goal is still the same-- making sure that we're around for the next 40+ years to support people. The challenge in front of us is a crisis & an opportunity. We won't survive if we just hang out waiting for normal to come back. On the other hand, the best thing about times when nobody knows the rules is that it gives you the opportunity to help establish the new order of things. Keep the faith, be patient as we work this out 1 person at a time (& wash your hands just because we do that all the time now). John

Firelands Local Update:

From James Johnson, GM-- Wednesday June 3 from 9-2 we will be having our first shred drop-off day since March 4 th . We are expecting a very good turnout. We will have cones and signs directing traffic that day. We have started receiving some small assembly jobs as well. We are working on plans to bring people back that are ready to work.   I have already scheduled 9 bulk pickup jobs for June and will start filling July soon.   The Firelands Advisory Board held its first meeting on Friday May 29 th .   As the workshop opens back up-- CLI & Firelands Local LLC will need to separate a bit more so that we can make the best use of the workshop building.   I would also like to remind everyone that even though things are starting to re-open, there is still a virus out there. People are still getting COVID-19. One of the biggest reasons both CLI and FL are slowly opening is that we are putting strict protocols in place to protect staff and clients. We want everyone to feel safe when they come to work or go to a hub and then go back home. Stay positive.
