Greetings!
The CLIP collaborative is made up of the CLIP Council, the Immigrant Advisory Table, four Action Teams plus community members interested in the work of creating a more welcoming and inclusive Calgary. This e-newsletter is a tool to ensure that all of you get the information you need to stay connected, and engaged. We take your news and highlights and share them here - and there is a lot going on! Get cozy with the Mystery Month Reading Challenge
Theatre Calgary is hosting Mystery Month from September 8 – October 12 and the Library is celebrating with a mystery-themed reading challenge. Sign up for a chance to win great prizes, like tickets to performances of Agatha Christie’s The Mousestrap, and more!

September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
As part of their commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, the Library will have opportunities for learning throughout the month, as well as on September 30 at all locations with Indigenous Placemaking.

Access free tutoring and more with Brainfuse
The Library membership gives student in Alberta from grades K – 12 access to live, virtual tutoring sessions.

Youth Advisory Board Volunteers
|
The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is looking for 11 Youth between the ages 14 to 18 to join a diverse and inclusive board to promote effective two-way communication between the CPS and youth to increase police awareness of youth; and to increase youth’s awareness of police-related issues.
The board will advise CPS on the impact of CPS policies, programs and services on youth. The board will provide CPS with an understanding of the issues affecting young people across Calgary as well as look at how current services are working and provide feedback on how they can be improved.
The application deadline is Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023.

Older Adult Advisory Table Volunteers
|
Age-Friendly Calgary (AFC) is seeking members, aged 45 and over, for its Older Adult Advisory Table (OAAT) to:
- Inform and support strategic and action planning of the Seniors Age-Friendly Strategy in an advisory capacity
- Provide the perspective of older adults to help make Calgary more age-friendly
- Share ideas and perspectives from their personal networks or social groups with OAAT
- Bring OAAT ideas and perspectives back to their personal networks or social groups
- Share information about AFC with people they know and support the vision of AFC
Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 4:00pm MST.

Arts & Culture Microgrant
|
Bring your idea for a public arts and culture experience to life! With close to $1 million in available funding, the 2023 Arts & Culture microgrant program is now accepting applications.
Non-profits and registered charities, including Community Associations and Business Improvement Areas, can apply for between $500 and $50,000 in funding for community-based arts and culture initiatives. Artists are invited to partner with one of these organizations to create an initiative that makes public spaces more inviting.
Application deadline is September 13, 2023.

Public Policy Training Institute
|
The Public Policy Training Institute is a twelve-day professional development program delivered over six months. It is designed to help participants more effectively engage in public policy advocacy.
Applications are open to staff and volunteer board members of Canadian charities who want to advance the mission of their organization through public policy advocacy.
Whether your organization has experience in public policy advocacy or is relatively new to the field, this extraordinary professional development opportunity will help you improve.
Applications are due October 2, 2023

Diversecities is hosting an event at Central Library on Sunday, Sept 10 (Suicide Prevention Day) from 1pm-4:30pm to raise suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
Join the event for fun activities, refreshments, and a movie showing (Inside Out). The movie showing will be at 1pm, while the activities will begin after the movie (around 2:45 ish).
If individuals are interested in the movie, they will need to book their seats (first come first serve).

Orange Shirt day is an opportunity to remember the children that didn’t make it home from Indian residential schools, the experience of survivors, and resulting inter-generational trauma.
This day also provides an opportunity to witness, support, and honour the healing journey of survivors and their families.
Join the City of Calgary event on Sept. 30, 9 a.m. at Fort Calgary, 750 9 Ave. S.E. to commemorate Indian residential school victims, honour survivors and their families, and commit to acting on reconciliation. Remembering the Children.
Everyone is strongly encouraged to wear orange as a sign of suppport and to honour the children who didn't return from residential schools across the country.
