CLMA President's Update
Brian Lowry, TAMKO Building Products, Inc.
|
|
Fellow CLMA Members,
It is my honor to communicate with you in this Composite Lumber Manufacturers Association's E-Newsletter as your newly appointed President. I thank my predecessor Peter Kotiadis, for the outstanding job he did during his tenure as President. His ideas and guidance were instrumental in growing CLMA membership and adding value to our members. Thank you, Peter.
CLMA continues to work hard to further the composite lumber industry's recognition in the marketplace and inclusion in building codes by bringing attention to common issues important to our members. Our Codes and Standards Committee is vigilant over the national and international building code development processes for decking and railing. This Committee of subject matter experts from CLMA members remains at the forefront of all code issues facing our industry. I believe its efforts represent one of the most vital benefits to CLMA members.
Preparations are underway for our annual meeting in fall 2017. Meeting details will be published when finalized. Having our full membership sit down with one another at this meeting and discuss topics relevant to our industry is the heart of our organizations existence. It is an exciting time to be a composite lumber manufacturer as the composite decking and railing product categories continue to grow; thus, it is an exciting time to be a part of the CLMA.
Thank you for your continued support of the Association. We look forward to another productive year for the benefit of our members.
Best regards,
Brian Lowry

Codes & Standards Committee
|
The CLMA Codes and Standards Committee (CSC) has been involved with several activities so far in 2017:
- For the International Code Council 2021 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code (ICC IWUIC), ICC moved this code into Group A of the 2018 ICC code development process. The CLMA CSC will be working with other stakeholders in an attempt to revise requirements in the IWUIC affecting composite decking products.
- CLMA has participated in a several-year effort lead by the Deck Code Coalition, chaired by Chuck Bajnai, Chief Residential Plan Reviewer, Chesterfield Co, Virginia, to expand, reorganize, and improve deck-related requirements in the ICC International Residential Code (IRC). Many of this coalition's proposals were approved, and will be incorporated into the 2018 IRC. The current - and appropriate - requirements for plastic composite deck boards, stair treads, and guard systems were retained.
- CLMA participated in providing verbal and written comments to the North Carolina Building Code Council in March 2017 raising concerns and suggesting improvements to proposed revisions to the 2015 IBC and IRC regarding guard requirements, which will be incorporated into the 2018 NC Building and 2018 NC Residential Code.
- CLMA members are participating in discussions and debate regarding potential revisions to several important standards, including ASTM D7032 and ASTM D6662.

Envision Decking Announces Distribution Agreement
with Guardian Guilding Products
TAMKO Building Products, Inc. is excited to announce a new agreement with Guardian Building Products (GBP) to distribute Envision Decking in the eastern United States.
"As Guardian strives to expand its presence in the decking category, we look for companies who not only solve real industry problems, but also provide a complement to us culturally," said Vendor Program Manager for GBP, Dan Parmelee. "We were fortunate to already have a great relationship with TAMKO for roofing, so it was a natural choice to look to them when we wanted to add a new composite decking line for several of our eastern branches."
Executive Vice President for TAMKO, Tim Whelan said, "We have a long history of working with Guardian and we are thrilled about this recent distribution agreement which provides a new channel for TAMKO's Envision decking to reach customers as we look to continue our growth and success in the composite decking market."
Guardian will stock TAMKO's EnvisionĀ® and EverGrainĀ® composite decking lines in its Cleveland, Ohio; Waterville, Maine; Baltimore, Maryland and Charlotte, North Carolina locations.
