Reaffirming Our Commitment to Safety and Inclusivity

Dear CLPCCD Community,

In light of recent concerns and confusion regarding potential federal immigration enforcement measures and a proposed federal funding freeze, we want to take this opportunity to share helpful information and reaffirm our commitment to supporting you.

As a district, we are unwavering in our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of immigration status. We are dedicated to upholding the protections outlined in California's sanctuary jurisdiction laws, Senate Bill (SB) 54 (the California Values Act) and Assembly Bill (AB) 21. These laws safeguard individuals’ rights, foster a supportive campus environment, and prohibit the use of community college resources for federal immigration enforcement except as explicitly required by law.

Additionally, on Monday, the U.S. Office of Management Budget released a memorandum calling for a freeze on certain federal grants, loans, and financial assistance programs. We understand the uncertainty this created. While the memorandum was later rescinded, it is important to note that no interruption to direct student loans and Pell Grants was included in the proposed freeze. We want to assure you that district and college leaders will continue to monitor developments and share updates with our community.

During these uncertain times, we remain dedicated to your safety and success. We encourage you to access district resources available to you to help you navigate the questions or concerns you may have.
