COUNCIL MEMBER RODRIGUEZ STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT MEDINA'S LATEST STEPS IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC IMMIGRATION DILEMMA
New York, NY--On Tuesday, November 26th, 2013, as news surfaced of a new plan put forth by Dominican President Danilo Medina that would create a pathway to citizenship for many of the individuals affected by the recent Dominican Constitutional Court ruling, Dominican-born New York City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez expressed his thoughts:
"I am encouraged by the recent steps taken by Dominican President Danilo Medina, aimed at solving the many issues brought forth by the D.R. Constitutional Court's September ruling. This ruling has put in jeopardy the nationality of over 200,000 persons living in the Dominican Republic, many of whom have been living there since birth. I remain hopeful that further measures will be taken to provide each person affected an opportunity to continue their life in peace. I encourage all to examine this plan and submit your comments, concerns and suggestions to the Dominican government (planreg@mip.gob.do) before 6pm on November 29th, 2013."
