Dear Friends and Neighbors,

 

I want to let you know about two events we have coming up for the end of this week. This evening, I will join the Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrants Rights and the Legal Aid Society to discuss immigration in the Trump era. We know that much of the rhetoric from our President-elect around this topic has put in peril many of the measures put in place to support our aspiring Americans and fellow New Yorkers. This forum will be an excellent discussion about where we are, where we're going and what we can do to protect our hard working neighbors. This will take place at the Fort Washington Collegiate Church on 181st Street and Fort Washington at 6:00pm, tonight.

I also want to let you about a street co-naming ceremony we will host on Friday, December 9th at 12:30 pm at 175th Street and Broadway, in honor of the entertainer and freedom fighter, Freddy Beras-Goico, who's spirit lifted the souls of many of our residents and their families living in the Dominican Republic. This street co-naming, which I helped pass through the City Council, will recognize a cultural icon at the foot of our cultural (United) Palace in Washington Heights. I hope you can join me in working to honor him.

Deseo dejarles saber sobre dos eventos que tenemos para este fin de semana. Esta noche, acompañaré a la Coalición del Norte de Manhattan para los Derechos de los Inmigrantes, y la Sociedad de Ayuda Legal, para discutir la inmigración en la era de Trump. Sabemos que mucha de la retórica de nuestro Presidente-electo en cuanto a este tema ha puesto en peligro muchas de las medidas adoptadas para respaldar a nuestros norteamericanos aspirantes y compañeros neoyorquinos.   Este foro será una excelente discusión sobre donde estamos, hacia donde vamos y qué podemos hacer para proteger a nuestros esforzados vecinos trabajadores.  Esto tendrá efecto en Fort Washginton Collegiate Church en la calle 181 y Fort Washington esta noche a las 6:00 p.m.

 

Deseo tambien hacer de su conocimiento sobre la ceremonia de re-designación de una calle que estaremos celebrando este Viernes 9 de diciembre a las 12:30 pm en la calle 175 y Broadway, en honor del animador y luchador por las libertades Freddy Beras Goico, cuyo espíritu elevó las almas de muchos de nuestros residentes y sus familias quienes residen en la República Dominicana. Esta re-designación de una calle, a lo cual yo contribuí al pasar por el Concejo de la Ciudad, habrá de reconocer a un icono cultural al pie de nuestro United Palace en Wahsington Heights. Espero que pueda usted acompañarme en la tarea de rendirle honor.
