COUNCIL MEMBER YDANIS RODRIGUEZ SPEAKS OUT AGAINST DOMESTIC AND INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE

New York, NY--Today Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez joined Council Member Julissa Ferreras, CONNECT, other council members and community organizations to take a pledge against domestic violence. The "Father's Day Pledge Against Domestic Violence" event included men from around New York City, who have committed to standing up against the destructive violence that harms so many.

"My pledge today against domestic and intimate partner violence is dedicated to my two daughters so that they know how important it is to be in a relationship with mutual respect," said Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez. "We have so much work to do to rid our city of domestic violence but any time we can bring the issue into the conversation, it is step forward. I thank Council Member Ferreras' leadership on this issue and her ability to bring so many men together to highlight their role in stopping domestic violence is powerful. And with yesterday's passing of a resolution in support of the Women's Equality Act at the council, New York City is sending a strong message that women's rights are human rights and they cannot be ignored any longer. It is time for truly equal pay in the work place, better protections against domestic abusers and a greater recognition of women's role in our society. Let's make sure Albany gets this done."
