We've had a busy few weeks in CMC, with many wonderful events and projects happening. Here's a brief summary of what we've been up to in June, as well as a preview of contemporary music events happening in July!

MATTHEW WHITESIDE NOMINATED FOR HERALD SCOTLAND CULTURE AWARD 

CMC composer   Matthew Whiteside  has been nominated for a Herald Scotland Culture Award in the 'One to Watch' category for new and emerging artists. Whiteside, who is originally from Northern Ireland and has been based in Glasgow for a number of years, is the only contemporary composer to be nominated in this category. ANNE MARIE O'FARRELL, SINÉAD FINEGAN AND SAM PERKIN ON COMPOSING FOR CO-ORCH, IRELAND'S CHARITY ORCHESTRA. 

Co-Orch, Ireland's charity orchestra, recently commissioned four new pieces by Irish composers inspired by and performed alongside Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, at a concert in aid of the Children's Right's Alliance. CMC asked three of the featured composers,  Anne-Marie O'Farrell, Sinéad Finegan and Sam Perkin, to tell us more about their pieces. Read more.


CMC PRESENTS NEW DUBLIN VOICES AT WOOD QUAY SUMMER SESSIONS   
The Wood Quay Summer Sessions are a series of free lunchtime concerts which will take place in Dublin City Council Civic Offices Amphitheatre each Thursday in July.

The aim of the sessions is to promote and support home grown musical talent. The series is curated by First Music Contact, Improvised Music Company, The Contemporary Music Centre and Music Network on behalf of DCC. 

CMC are delighted to be involved again in this year's Wood Quay Summer Sessions, which will feature a performance of contemporary choral works by New Dublin Voices on Thursday 13th of July. 

Admission is free so grab your lunch, bring your friends and join us at The Wood Quay Summer Sessions this July! 


CRASH ENSEMBLE CELEBRATE 20 YEARS WITH CRASHLANDS PROJECT 

Crash Ensemble celebrates 20 years during 2017.  As part of this the new music group is running CrashLands, a new music project which sees the premiere of 20 newly-commissioned works by Irish and International composers including Amanda Feery, Seán Clancy, Jennifer Walshe and Roger Doyle in a range of unusual rural locations across Ireland. CMC spoke to the ensemble's CEO, Neva Elliott McGinley, about the project. Read more.


CMC Shop Spotlight: Contemporary Music Available For Purchase  


Browse contemporary music from Ireland on CMC's website, where you can search for specific works and purchase scores and CD's available through CMC's shop section.  Recent works include Sam Perkin's piano trio Freakshow, commissioned by Gregynog Festival in Wales and Frank Corcoran's 8 Irish Duets for Cello recently recorded for a new RTÉ Lyric fm CD, as well as releases by Matthew Whiteside, Ryan Molloy and more!  Discover contemporary music from Ireland here.  

Upcoming events in July 
Thursday 13 July 2017, The Studio at DLR Lexicon Library,  Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, 7 :00 pm

'Wake' is  a  programme of new music for flute, percussion and electronics, exploring James Joyce's Finnegans Wake, Roland Barthes' Image Music Text and the UK Jungle scene circa 1995. The programme features two world-premiere performances of new works by Nick Roth inspired by these eclectic influences.
