Purchasing Cooperative
Have you looked at your utility bill lately? Are you concerned about how much you are spending?
COVID19, the Presidential election, economic forecasts and erratic weather conditions are making the energy market volatile. If you would like to reduce your costs and stabilize your utility rates join the Chamber Energy Purchasing Cooperative.
The Central Maryland Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Nationally Recognized Energy Management experts, CQI Associates, to administer and manage the Chamber Energy Purchasing Cooperative. Competitive rates are obtained by leveraging aggregated usage from members of 23 Chambers of Commerce. The increased purchasing power allows members to receive lower rates than they could typically attain on their own.

Since 2004, the Cooperative electricity rates have been lower than both market rates and the weighted annual utility standard offer service rates. During our recent fall campaign participants saw a combined savings of $889,600. Which equated to members saving an average of $4,000 annually. Natural gas rates have also been lowered on average than market rates and utility monthly winter peak indexed rates.

TAKE ACTION REGISTER NOW in the current campaign which runs from August 31, 2020 to September 25, 2020. 

TO ENROLL IN THE ENERGY COOPERATIVE:
  1. Complete and sign the Letter of Authorization below.
  2. Provide one complete copy of your most recent Utility bill(s) for all electricity and or natural gas accounts you are enrolling.
  3. Scan and email copies of the above documents to Joe Tabeling at joe@cqiassociates.com or fax to 410-630-5911
  4. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS September 25, 2020

Reducing bias in the workplace through hiring,
retention, development, and promotion

The Maryland Chamber Foundation is proud to promote the next installment of the six-part webinar series showcasing best practices for developing strategies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. The series, sponsored by BGE, will feature business leaders from high-profile companies who are driving systemic change in their own organizations and communities.

On September 2, at 11 a.m., the second webinar, “Reducing bias in the workplace through hiring, retention, development, and promotion,” will be joined by a panel of Comcast representatives including Mary McLaughlin, regional senior vice president, Comcast Beltway Region; Kelli Hill, regional vice president customer care, Comcast; and Loren Hudson, regional vice president human resources, Comcast. This 60-minute webinar will consist of a 45-minute panel discussion and a 15-minute Q&A session moderated by Christine Ross, president & CEO, Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

Attendees will learn how companies focus on reducing bias in the workplace and create inclusive cultures that support retention and employee engagement. Resource materials will be provided to participants after the program.
FEMA Approves Maryland’s Application for Additional $300 Per Week In Federal Unemployment Benefits
Governor Larry Hogan announced that the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) has approved the state’s application to provide unemployed Marylanders with an additional $300 per week in benefits under the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) program. The Maryland Department of Labor will now work with the federal administration to implement this program, with a plan to begin distributing the additional benefits by late September.

Military Affairs Committee School Supply Drive
The Military Affairs Committee of the Central Maryland Chamber will be collecting school supplies to provide to the 4 Elementary Schools, 2 Middle Schools and High School located on Fort Meade. All supplies need to be dropped off to the chamber conference room (8379 Piney Orchard Parkway, Odenton) by appointment only. Contact Kim to make arrangements at kim@centralmarylandchamber.org. We will make arrangement to deliver to the schools before they begin September 8th.
