Paycheck Protection Program Has Reopened
The Paycheck Protection Program resumed accepting applications July 6, 2020, at 9:00 AM EDT in response to the Paycheck Protection Program Extension Act. The new deadline to apply for a Paycheck Protection Program loan is August 8, 2020. 

How To Apply
You can apply through any existing SBA 7(a) lender or through any federally insured depository institution, federally insured credit union, and Farm Credit System institution that is participating. Other regulated lenders will be available to make these loans once they are approved and enrolled in the program. You should consult with your local lender as to whether it is participating in the program. View a list of lenders participating in the Paycheck Protection Program by state.

If you wish to begin preparing your application, you can download a copy of the PPP borrower application form (revised June 12, 2020) to see the information that will be requested from you when you apply with a lender.

Melwood Board Names Chief of Staff & General Counsel, Larysa Kautz, as Interim President & CEO
The Board of Directors of Melwood is pleased to announce the appointment of Larysa Kautz as Interim President & CEO effective July 1, 2020, following Cari DeSantis’ departure for her planned retirement. Kautz has served on Melwood’s C-Suite since 2014 and is one of Melwood’s most senior and seasoned leaders.

“Larysa has a deep understanding of every facet of Melwood’s operations. She has already made important contributions to the success of Melwood during her tenure, including leading our AbilityOne public policy and advocacy efforts. The Board is confident that she will successfully lead our organization during this time of transition, together with our newly elected Board Chair, Don Hathway,” said Steve Martin, Chair of the Melwood Board of Directors.
Miles & Stockbridge Launches Initiative to Support Black Entrepreneurs and Businesses
Miles & Stockbridge, a leading business law firm with more than 220 lawyers in the mid-Atlantic region, announced today the launch of an initiative to support Black businesses by providing introductory legal counsel at no cost or a reduced cost.

The Miles & Stockbridge Black Business & Start-Up Initiative will focus on helping to eliminate or temper some of the barriers uniquely experienced by Black entrepreneurs and businesses, such as a lack of funding (particularly as it relates to legal expenses) and a lack of access to a network experienced in the challenges confronting all businesses.

The Miles & Stockbridge team will meet with qualifying applicants by phone to assess their needs and determine next steps. Miles & Stockbridge is prepared to provide legal counsel to Black businesses accepted into the initiative to help develop and grow their businesses—from general corporate and business legal services necessary to keep operations running smoothly to more complex tax, acquisition, employment, general commercial contracting, intellectual property and immigration advice and insight. The firm will also counsel clients interested in attracting growth capital or angel funding and securing funding for ongoing operations.
