The Contemporary Music Centre September Newsletter
September in CMC is usually a busy month, and this year is no exception with many exciting events and projects happening. Here's a brief summary of what we've been up, as well as a preview of contemporary music events happening in September and October!
CMC presents Beneath Iseult's Tower, a 'Pop Up' Opera commissioned by CMC for Culture Night 2017

Beneath Iseult's Tower
was commissioned specially for Culture Night 2017. The theme of this 'pop up' opera is Tristan and the Irish Princess Iseult, after whom Isolde's Tower in Wood Quay is named.
Working with these composers, Producer Síobhra Quinlan of OTC Opera Hub, Mentor Michelle O'Rourke and Deviser/Performer Bríd Ní Ghruagáin will bring Beneath Iseult's Tower from blank page to world premiere on Culture Night. The world premiere will take place at 6.30pm on Culture Night (22 September 2017) in CMC's historic building on Fishamble Street, with a second outdoor performance at the nearby Wood Quay Amphitheatre at 8.00pm.
JOHN MCLACHLAN'S MUSIC PERFORMED IN JAPAN
will travel to Japan later this month for performances of his work by Japanese pianist Satoko Inoue. The visit follows an Irish tour organised by both McLachlan and Tokyo-based Irish composer Paul Hayes earlier in the summer where she performed in Dublin, Waterford and Letterkenny.

talks about the soundSCAPE festival in Maccagno, Italy, which she attended as the 2017 Irish Artist-in-Residence. The annual residency is offered in association with CMC and the Association of Irish Composers, with support from Culture Ireland.
AILÍS NÍ RÍAIN REPORTS ON HER RESIDENCY EARLIER THIS YEAR AT THE CENTRE CULTUREL IRLANDAIS, PARIS
A report from Ailis Ni Riain on her residency earlier this year at the Centre Culturel Irlandais. The annual residency for Irish composers, which takes place in January and February each year, is a partnership between the Contemporary Music Centre and the Centre Culturel Irlandais.

Choral Sketches - Performance Readings

Choral Sketches is a partnership project between Chamber Choir Ireland and Contemporary Music Centre, which provides a unique professional development opportunity for composers wishing to develop their skills in writing choral music with mentoring from renowned composer Tarik O'Regan. Composers Amanda Feery, Michael Gallen and Seán Doherty were selected to participate, and the resulting works by Amanda Feery and Michael Gallen will be given a performance reading by Chamber Choir Ireland and conductor Nils Schweckendiek.
