Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the families, Georgetown County board members and staff, and friends who joined us Friday afternoon for our Topping Off Ceremony.  We were all having so much fun together in the Grand Hall that many of us missed the tree being hoisted to the top of the building!  Standing on stage next to our Upper Elementary students and looking out at our beautiful Montessori family made my heart fill with joy.  We have truly built something great together and the amazing thing is we are just getting started.  Your presence on Friday showed our sponsor, Georgetown County School District, that we care deeply for a public Montessori choice in this county.

I loved seeing our students, staff and families sign the board.  Each had a unique signature and some even included symbols of peace and love with their signatures.  Yesterday marked the last day to purchase bricks for the walkway that will lead to our new school. We raised another $3,500 selling bricks Friday at the event. Thanks to everyone who supported the capital campaign.  That said, if you are looking for ways to donate to CMCS we will never turn away your contributions.  Items still available for sponsorship include trees, bushes, flowers and fencing as well as benches and playground equipment.

Be sure to mark your calendars for our 2nd annual Eat, Play, Golf tournament at the Founder's Club on May 21st.  Although my team came in last place at our 1st annual tournament, in true Montessori fashion I will be there this year to apply what I learned from last year's mistakes and who knows, maybe my team will not come in last this year.  I try to remind my friends that the Eat, Play, Golf tournament is about building community, while having fun.  So, get your golf clothing ready and sign yourself and three others up to make a team (remember, kids and adults can play).  A great time is always promised.

It is an exciting time for CMCS!  With spring upon us, and our building well underway, we now have a physical presence in our community.  Building this school has been a labor of love by all involved, so thank you again for believing in public Montessori and remember that together we can move mountains and create positive and impactful change for the youth and families of our community.  It is a great day to be a Montessorian in South Carolina.

Though some might call it antiquated in our modern, fast-paced world, studying poetry is a perfect vehicle for students to learn how to express themselves in interesting and powerful ways. And don't we all want our children to sound interesting? Don't we want them to feel powerful? This month, CMCS students are studying poetry, learning to stretch their brains about language and the world in the same way that a difficult math problem forces them to look at numbers and the connections between them in a new way.

Students had great ideas like cancelling thunder storms, sad and mad, and homework. Students said they would add rainbows every day, dogs that can talk, and Taco Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at school. What would your child do if they were in charge of the world? Read it, ask them, and find out!

On the evening of April 28th, students will showcase their poetry and literacy skills for parents. Some classrooms are having a poetry jam where students are sharing their poetry. Other classrooms are showcasing their students' ability to analyze and perform classic poems. Another class will be displaying book reports. Students will also be serving guests snacks as they listen and observe the performances.

After the classroom activities, parents and students are invited to join me in the cafeteria for a few literacy activities that will inspire parents and students alike to REMEMBER LITERACY this summer. Being a parent is difficult. Being a child is difficult. Sometimes, it's hard to remember how easy and fun it is to make time for literacy at home.

It'll be a fun night. And let me repeat, snacks will be served.
