DIRECTOR'S NOTE - Building a Dream
|
Next year will be CMCS's fifth year of operation and my fourth year at the helm. Each day I am privileged to serve your children. Each day I remember our humble beginnings and how this school started as a "What if..." in a living room on a couch. "What if we made Montessori a free, public school option in Georgetown County?"
As our very own building gets closer to completion, we feel excitement and pride. CMCS was earned; it was not given to us. I convey this message to our students. I love the moral of our story. In a world of immediate gratification, stories of worthy endeavors taking time, effort, and persistence are good to tell. Things we earn ourselves have infinitely more value than those that are given to us.
Building a dream doesn't happen often. Many dream. Few define the dream and then set reasonable and attainable goals to achieve it. Few are willing to take the setbacks and keep going. Thank you, Dr. Kristin Bohan, for asking "What if?" Thank you, Rob Horvath, and CMCS Board for never giving up. Thank you, families, for taking the chance on something different. As our county-wide demand waiting lists grow in every grade, I hope you take great comfort in the fact that, you were right.
As the windows go in and the dry wall goes up, I reflect on the fact that CMCS did not just happen. CMCS is a result of families, just like you, who believed in a peaceful environment and a way of teaching children that would prepare them for life. CMCS was created, against all odds, by determined parents and teachers for this specific community at this specific
point in time. Aren't we lucky?
I love my job. It is the hardest, best thing I've ever done. I take great pride in creating the ideal learning environment and the best teaching team, so that your child can dream big. CMCS is, after all, an example of anything is possible. Each day I encourage your child to embrace her full potential. Each day I encourage your child to practice being his best self.
Thank you for believing in CMCS: A school created to open doors for any child in the county who wanted to learn the way human beings were designed to learn. Here, we enrich academic performance and nurture emotional intelligence.
We cultivate childrens' executive functions - the ability to organize ideas, create a plan of action, and see them through. CMCS symbolizes dreams, hopes, delayed gratification, creation and careful execution of a good plan. When we soon inhabit the CMCS facility, its values will seep into our students' very moral fiber and become a part of who they are. Aren't we lucky?
Kindly,
Dr. Hunt

Watch for Lice
|
A child was found to have lice in school recently. Please remember to keep an eye on your child's head - inspect it regularly and watch for itching. If your child gets lice please notify the school so we can take action to prevent other students from contracting it.
Lice do not like hair with products in it like hair spray and gel. Remind your child not to share jackets and hats and
review these tips from the CDC for stopping the spread of lice.

May Breakfast Menu
A NOTE ABOUT LUNCHES
All accounts need to be paid up with the WMS cafeteria by May 13th. If you have an outstanding balance, please send it in asap. It would be helpful to send in the remainder of monies needed to get you through May 31st.
Students who do not have money in their lunch accounts are unable to make "milk only" purchases. The system does not allow it. Also, please encourage your student to keep track of their ID card. Several ID cards have gone missing, which is causing issues in the lunch line. The first ID card is free, replacements are $5 per ID card.

Fridays MMUN Pizza Day on Fridays CMCS students can enjoy pizza for lunch on Fridays for just $1 per slice. Healthy sides should be sent from home or purchased from the cafeteria.
