Roneet Lev, MD is the first chief medical officer of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. Previously, Dr. Lev served as the chief of the emergency department at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, where she worked since 1993. In 2012, she established the San Diego and Imperial County Prescription Drug Abuse Medical Task Force with the goal of reducing deaths and mortality from prescription drugs. Her program on safe prescribing in the emergency department won the 2014 National Association of Counties award and Red Ribbon Outstanding Prevention Program Award. She has conducted research on deaths from prescription drugs known as the death diaries. Lev assisted several communities in establishing safe prescribing coalitions and programs. She has numerous medical publications, speaks at conferences, and has been featured in print, radio and television. She was on an episode of The Doctors (Death Diaries), and Trauma Life in the ER (In the Navy).
