The 2020-2021 school year is in the books. A year like no other for sure. What positives did you take away this year? I started a Tri-M chapter at my new school. It served a unique purpose this year. It brought band and orchestra together at a time when we were all so very isolated. We were never able to have a meeting in person or perform together but we bonded as a chapter. We provided a community service project as well as designed our final concert program. We planted a seed of what Tri-M looks like and are excited to continue this fall.
The 2022 Tri-M convention plans are already underway. Please mark Wednesday January 26th down in your calendar. It will be so nice to see everyone again. Do you have an idea for a session for Tri-M Day? Do you know someone who would be great to present a session? Visit www.cmeaonline.org and share your session ideas. We welcome your contributions to our fun filled day.
I love when our CMEA members contact me asking about starting a chapter at their school. I have spoken with several directors who are looking to bring Tri-M into their program. How can I help you and your program? Please reach out and ask questions. Tri-M is what you make it. There is never a one set template for every chapter. Convention time allows us to come together and share our visions and ideas. We meet other chapters who share the same passion and love for music. Start a Tr-M chapter this fall and allow your students to enjoy this experience. You will not regret your decision.
In the meantime, relax, turn off your screen, sit and do nothing, read a book for pleasure, hike in the Colorado Mountains, be with family. You have put in a year we will all remember. You did it! You survived a full pandemic year. That my friends, is to be congratulated!
Session topics include change, diversity, cultural relevance, programming, learner variability, mindfulness, restorative justice, language, inclusion, interrupting racism, equity, digital beat making, technology, history, social-emotional learning, software, gender, student engagement, student experience, world drumming, proven practices, music careers, and MORE!

Did you know that you can purchase CMEA Solo and Ensemble Awards even if you did not attend a CHSAA Solo and Ensemble Festival? If you hosted a regional Solo and Ensemble Festival or a county of district festival you can still order CMEA Solo and Ensemble medals.
Have you participated in a CHSAA Large Group Festival and put off ordering the award plaque? You can still order plaques for past festivals.
Did you have students in All-State Jazz Band, All-State Jazz Choir, All-State Orchestra, or the Elementary, Middle School, or High School All-State Choirs? If you did this might be a great time to honor these students with an All-State Medal. You can order these medals for your students and have them shipped directly to your home address. This is a great way to recognize your students for their accomplishment.
Have you thought about stocking up on Solo and Ensemble Medals, All-State Medals, or Clinic/Conference Performing Group medals? This might be a good time to spend remain budget dollars to stock up on these medals before your funds run out.
All award orders can be placed by going to the CMEA web site at cmeaonline.org, clicking on the General Information Tab and Clicking on the Order CMEA Awards Tab. All transactions can be completed on-line, including credit card payment.
