I know that this school year has brought new and varied circumstances that we are all working through to keep our students in our classes for as much time as possible. These circumstances are undoubtedly as unique to your school and district as anything else you do in your classroom, but as I talk to colleagues from across the state, I cannot help but think that this is a situation and opportunity that teachers, and especially music teachers, can overcome. Also, knowing what is on tap for the 2022 CMEA Clinic/Conference I cannot think of a more crucial time in our history than now to plan on attending. I am not only talking about the ideas and proven experiences that the concerts, clinics and clinicians will provide but the ability to get out of the zoom climate and talk to one another face-to-face. The interaction of sharing ideas with a colleague who will understand your plight and appreciate what you have to offer are both affective and effective. I truly believe that personal interactions are significantly more productive than those conducted by virtual means and contributes not only to knowledge but to mental and emotional well-being. Be proactive in how you move forward for your students and your craft by registering now. Do not put off taking this opportunity for personal and professional growth at a time when music education and music educators need it most. I will look forward to seeing you in Colorado Spring – January 26-29, 2022!
I also encourage you to consider that "normal" is not a static ideal but a dynamic one that is seemingly unchanging yet always reflective of the times and realities of the present. As you search for ways to return to normal try to be open to what a "new normal" could be and in what ways the new routines, expectations, standards, and practices will actually accommodate greater opportunities for our students and ourselves. Wishing for the past often leaves us disappointed while looking forward to the future holds promise.

Happy Fall, it is hard to imagine that we are already in November and quickly approaching the return to our annual in-person conference in January. Like everything in the world around much has changed since the pandemic. This will also be true as we return to our in-person conference in January. The staff of CMEA has made come exciting changes to the on-site registration process for the conference. As you are already aware, the CMEA Board approved a four-tier system of registration. Early bird registration closed on October 15, 2021, and we are now in the pre-registration phase. This phase closes on December 17th. Regular registration opens on December 18th and runs through January 22nd. This is a new phase of registration for our conference participants. On-site registration will open on-line for the first time on January 24th and run through January 28th.
Any participant registering for the conference through January 22nd will be able to pick-up their materials at the pre-registration tables in the Broadmoor Hall Lobby. For those of you who miss these deadlines you will still have the opportunity to complete your on-line registration form and either select to pay by credit card or to bring a check to on-site registration in Broadmoor Hall. When you arrive at the on-site registration desk you will need to have a copy of either your registration confirmation or invoice available on your mobile device or through a printed copy. The registration worker will verify your registration and payment, and if paying by check on-site they will collect your check. You will be handed your conference credentials and you will be on your way. It is important to note, there will no longer be any paper forms for registration. All registrations will take place through the on-line registration portal.
We are excited to offer a streamlined and faster process for conference registration and we look forward to seeing all of you in January.

Tri-M
Michelle Ewer, Chair
I hope you and your chapter are well and active. My chapter did Trunk or Treat Street on a cold October night, but it was so worth it. The students exceeded the expectation I set regarding candy, decorations and volunteers. It shows that if you plant the seed, they will grow.
Tri-M day is January 26th at the Broadmoor Hotel. We will start at 8:45 and end at 4:00. The fee is $25 per student. Lunch is on your own this year to keep prices as low as possible. Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser is our Keynote Speaker, and I am very excited about this. We will have clinics on conducting, music wellness, composing, leadership, social justice in music, vocal pedagogy, College applications, Tri-M chapter ideas and meeting local composers. There is something for everyone. Students will be able to choose the sessions that best fit their needs.
Please check back to the CMEA website at www.cmeaonline.org for registration information. The link will be up shortly. The deadline to register will be January 20th. There will be no on-site registration this year. Plan now to attend this great day of Tri-M activities. You do not need to be registered with NAFME Tri-M to participate in Tri-M day.
I look forward to a great day of Leadership and Fellowship on January 26th. Please let me know if you have any questions.
