CMH NICU Celebrates 1 Year CLABSI FREE!
The CMH NICU recently celebrated one year without any central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) in NICU patients. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention defines a CLABSI as a serious infection that occurs when germs (usually bacteria or viruses) enter the bloodstream through the central line.
We want to recognize our NICU team for this remarkable accomplishment! This milestone is an example of our ongoing commitment to providing the best care possible to our youngest patients and their families.

CMHS launched free access to the Calm app in September of 2021. If you haven’t engaged with Calm, please visit MyBenefitsNow to get started. Beginning this month, Calm is extending free memberships to up to four dependents of each CMHS employee. That means your dependents (ages 16 and older) will enjoy their own individual accounts. For more information, please visit the CALM website or see attached flyer.
CMHS team members have great things to say about using the CALM app!
| |
|
“Calm is excellent. It has so many meditation exercises, relaxing music, and inspiring stories. Thank you CMHS for providing this benefit to the employees!”
“I was so excited to see this app as a new benefit for CMHS! My morning meditation with Jeff Warren has been very helpful and I am noticing that I am less stressed at work. The music is also a nice way to wind down at the end of the day. Looking forward to exploring more of the features and programs.”
“I have been using CALM every day at my desk using the work music with my headset. I work in a small office environment with multiple people. It has increased my productivity to have access to this application. I also listen at night for relaxation.”
| |
“The CALM app shows that CMHS is paying attention to me as a person, not just an employee. I am so grateful to have been introduced to this awesome benefit! I am using the music and scenes at work and the sleep app at home. I love it!"
“I think this is one of the best benefits has offered us. I love the Calm app. I listen to it when I get home from work to de-stress for a bit so I feel refreshed to handle the evening duties at home. I also listen to the soundscapes when I wake in the middle of the night and I’m having a hard time falling back to sleep. The meditation is also good right before bed. Thank you!”

Patient Safety Corner – Principles of High Reliability Organizations
For the next several weeks, the Patient Safety Corner will be dedicated to exploring the Five Principles of High Reliability Organizations (HROs). As a refresher, the term “high reliability” describes an organizational culture that strives to achieve error-free performance and safety in every procedure, every time. The application of the Five Principles is crucial to our pursuit of this level of safety and reliability.
Principle One – Preoccupation with Failure
Highly reliable healthcare cultures recognize that errors can occur at any time, are always vigilant, and look for what could have gone wrong in order to learn from it. Near-misses are viewed as evidence of systems that need improvement and opportunities to better understand what went wrong. Good catches are celebrated and near-misses are transparently and openly discussed. CMHS is implementing Principle One by:
- Utilizing the STAR reporting system to communicate errors, near misses, good catches, system problems and deviations from standard practices Identifying trends, patterns, or concerns to proactively intervene or address systems problems Implementing learning boards to display reporting trends, fall statistics, quality metrics, etc. at the unit level
- Celebrating “Good Catches” regularly
- Debriefing with our teams regarding errors that were made and how processes can be improved
Check back next week for a closer look at Principle Two! If you have questions about HROs or other Patient Safety issues, please contact Maureen Archambault, Director of Risk Management and Patient Safety, at x2884 or marchambault@cmhshealth.org.

Kronos Time Clocks Coming to CMHS
Beginning Monday, October 3, Information Systems will begin the installation of Kronos timeclocks at every CMHS location. They will be installed next to (or as close as possible) every JBDev timeclock in preparation for change to the new Kronos payroll system on December 25.
There are 90-time clocks throughout the organization, so this project will run through mid to late November. There will be some disruption while we install the new timeclocks, but we will try to minimize the disruption as much as possible. Continue using the JBDev timeclocks until you are directed by your manager to start using the Kronos timeclocks.
