Alumni Profile: Ohio Supreme Court Justice
Michael Donnelly '92

Michael Donnelly '92 loved his 14 years as a Judge on the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and believed he would one day retire from that position having protected justice in the local community. That was until the opportunity arose for Justice Donnelly to run for a seat on the Ohio Supreme Court.

Donnelly convincingly won election to the Ohio Supreme Court in November with more than 60% of the vote and in January took his seat on the seven-justice Court alongside two other C|M|LAW graduates, newly elected Justice Melody Stewart '88 and Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor '80.

A seat on the highest court in the state is not one Justice Donnelly could envision when he sat in the classrooms on East 18th and Euclid three decades ago.

"Never in a million years did I believe I would someday be sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court," said Justice Donnelly. "All I knew is that I wanted to be a lawyer in the courtroom and argue for justice."

We hope to see you January 25 at the law school to celebrate a wonderful New Year
for our students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends!
