Successful Manufacturing month for CMMA
For the first time ever, Governor Walz proclaimed the entire month of October as Manufacturing Month. Manufacturing is Central Minnesota’s second largest employing industry, providing nearly 40,000 jobs with an average annual wage of more than $57,500, well above the region’s overall average of $48,500. Manufacturing also accounted for 11.4% of statewide employment and provided 14% of the state’s gross domestic product in 2020, so it’s clear that the health of Minnesota’s economy is closely tied to the strength of the manufacturing industry.

The K12Navigator is a FREE tool that aggregates work-based learning resources to integrate into classrooms or workforce development programs. Educators can log on and search for a list of manufacturers in Central Minnesota that are willing to provide the following items:
  • Classroom speakers
  • Company tours
  • Job shadowing
  • Youth apprenticeship programs
  • Work-based training
  • Student mentors
  • Student technical project support
  • Material donations.

Web marketing minute
Each manufacturer has unique strengths and challenges. However, it seems some people outside the industry believe manufacturing is monolithic and not a place to encourage their kids to look for jobs. (In contrast, we know the future of manufacturing looks bright: more high-tech and more high-skilled and creative outlets.) Put simply public perception is varied - and manufacturers are often lumped into one big group. This is essentially a marketing problem, and public perception of your company is affecting those you are selling to, including prospective employees.
