Central Minnesota will be celebrating Manufacturing Week September 30-October 5, 2024.
CMMA realized early on that there was an urgent need to help dispel incorrect perceptions of our industry and change the view from “dark, dirty, dangerous” to “clean, safe, and rich with technology and opportunity.” We needed a way to open doors, create engagement, and improve future workforce prospects so we started the Tour of Manufacturing. This annual event has gained traction, achieved measurable success, and is now a statewide initiative.

Golf Social 2024 recap
It was a beautiful day for the 12th annual CMMA Golf Social at Wapicada Golf Club. Over $19,000 was raised in support of youth manufacturing programs in the region.

CMMA April 2024 Meeting
Close to 90 CMMA members and guests attended the April meeting. Tim Zipoy led the meeting which was sponsored by Clint Nelson from Qualified Plan Advisors. The presentation "Grant projects for Manufacturers" was led by Tammy Biery and Angie Dahle of Career Solutions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Travis Mick, Vice President of Business Development at CWMF, shared the history of the company his father started in 1968. Travis, along with his sister, Carmie, are second generation owners of CWMF.
On the tour of CWMF we were able to see first-hand the equipment that CWMF makes for its nationwide customer base. CWMF's equipment is used at permanent and portable asphalt plants. We were able to see the CNC plasma table in action, as well as the building of AC tanks and drum mixers.

CMMA May 2024 Meeting
CMMA members had a great time on May 23! We attended a private tour of the St. John's Abbey Woodshop featuring their Organ Builders highlighting Marin Pasi's work and Abbey's Woodworking which builds most of the furniture you see on campus in addition to items for the St. John's Bible project, coffins/caskets and the St. John's cross. In addition, the shop includes private artisan workspaces.
Fr. Lew Grobe, O.S.B., director of the Woodshop, delivered his presentation "By the Work of Our Hands: An Inquiry into the Value of Manual Labor" to the group. Fr. Lew shared his journey and the 150-year Benedictine tradition of manual labor. A special thank you to Jenna Witherbee, 401K Plan Professionals, for joining us as the meeting sponsor.

Kashmark serving as CMMA/MMA Interim Executive Director
Sandy Kashmark, controller and former Executive Director (ED), is filling the role of interim executive director of MMA. She previously served as the ED from 1992-2022. She has served as the controller since 2022. A hiring committee, made up of a representative from AMFA, CMMA, RRMEA, and TSMA, is interviewing candidates and hopes to fill the position by the end of August. After the expansion of the K12Navigator with collaborator Otter Tail County the number of employers has grown to 193 and the number of schools is 46. The K12 Navigator is an online directory that allows employers of all industries and sizes to engage with schools and students interested in exploring careers within career fields that they offer. The tool allows students to connect with employers that are willing to provide classroom speakers, company tours, job shadowing, apprenticeship programs, student mentors, and more.
